  1. The Tennessee Department of Health is currently seeking aย contractย Communication Specialist for the Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needsย program.
  2. This role will leadย contentย creation and community engagement initiatives and drive impactful communication plans aligned with program goals. The ideal candidate is passionate aboutย children and youthย and skilled in dynamic communication.ย

Keyย Responsibilities:ย

Contentย Development:ย 

  1. Create and implement a communication plan aligned with program goals andย objectives.ย 
  1. ย Collaborate with subject matter experts and community partners to design compelling and culturally competent digital and printed materials.ย 
  1. Update andย maintainย program websites.ย 
  1. Create and report on indicators that measure communications performance.ย ย 
  1. Develop and implement monthly newsletters, social media campaigns/public service announcements, etc.ย 

Community Engagement:ย 

  1. Create and develop initiatives involving the community, including stories, interviews, videography, and photography.ย 
  1. Build andย maintainย relationships with internal and external partners.ย 
  1. Contribute to campaign development and community education projects that highlight children and youth with special healthcare needs initiatives statewide.ย 
  1. Work collaboratively within a supportive, multidisciplinary team andย demonstrateย flexibility when priorities shift.ย 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelorโ€™s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field OR the equivalent reflected in a non-collegiate portfolio.ย 
  2. 2โ€“5 years of experience in public health, nonprofit, or government communications preferred.ย 
  3. Proficiencyย in Canva and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
  4. ย 
  5. Graphic design samplesย required.ย 
  6. ย 
  7. Experience reporting platform metrics.ย 
  8. ย 
  9. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, digital accessibility standards in compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508, ensuring that online content is accessible to individuals with visual and other disabilities.ย

  3. Hybrid with some in-office meetingsย requiredย quarterly or more often,ย at supervisor discretion.ย Travel to Nashville-based central office is non-reimbursable.ย
