Job description

Machine Operator Assistant

The purpose of this position is to assist the Machine Operator with the set up and operation of machines that perform a variety of functions, such as rewinding/folding, sawing, banding, wrapping, cartoning, boxing, or stacking of paper goods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to work safely and accident-free in all job functions.
  • Examine completed work to verify conformance to work orders along with all areas of quality, and adjust machinery as necessary to correct any issues.
  • Ability to make machine adjustments using basic hand tools.
  • Install machine change parts to meet new product specifications.
  • Place rolls of paper in machine back stands and safely thread paper through embossers, slitting rolls, folding rolls, re-winder area, etc.
  • Fill glue reservoirs.
  • Disassemble machines to maintain, repair, or replace broken or worn parts, using hand or power tools.
  • Capable of providing the necessary training to the team within the employee's knowledge and capabilities.
  • Direct production support as needed and ensure they are following all safe work practices.
  • The ability to demonstrate leadership skills on regular, consistent basis.
  • Keep work area clean and organized while following the lean initiatives.
  • Serve as back-up to Machine Operator, and fill in for Machine Assistant Operators and Production Support, as needed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience: 1-2 years' experience with manufacturing equipment preferred

Computer Skills: Possess basic computer skills.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to use arms, legs, and hands in a range of motions. Frequently required to lift/carry or push/pull up to 12 pounds with or without assistance.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed in a manufacturing environment around equipment designed to convert paper. Temperatures in the plant can range a great deal from season to season. The incumbent will be exposed to considerable paper dust. Incumbents will also be exposed to noise levels that may require hearing protection. Safety shoes and eye protection are also required in the manufacturing and warehouse areas.
