Job description
Breakthrough is the leading college access and success nonprofit in Central Texas. For more than 20 years, we have partnered with thousands of middle and high school students who aspire to be the first in their family to graduate with a degree or certificate. We make a radical, long-term commitment to students, to and through college, unlocking the power of education and a lifetime of opportunity. We support the whole student with personalized services, work closely with community partners, campuses, and employers, and advocate for our students with lawmakers. Breakthrough students attend 60+ public schools and persist at nearly 100 colleges and universities. The result is that 55% of Breakthrough students graduate from college, compared to 17% of low-income students in our region. Our work has resulted in more than 550 college graduates, with 4,000 on their way, positively impacting families for generations, our region's educational access, and the Central Texas economy.
Why Work at Breakthrough Central Texas
By working for Breakthrough Central Texas, you will help hundreds of students achieve their dreams of success and receive the high-quality education they deserve. Breakthrough is an organization committed to its students and recognizes that our greatest resource to support them is our dedicated and talented staff. If you believe all young people deserve the opportunity to achieve postsecondary success and you desire to work at an organization committed to its employees and building the strongest team culture anywhere, then join us!
ABOUT THE COLLEGE & CAREER SUCCESS PROGRAM COORDINATOR ROLE
Breakthrough recognizes the value and need of high-quality advising services to students beyond high school graduation, with an emphasis on supporting students along bachelor's degree completion pathways. In this model, we directly serve students through six years of their postsecondary journey, with a strong focus on college transition, early persistence, and continued progress toward degree completion and/or successful transfer. The overall goal of the program is to increase bachelor's attainment rates and strengthen long-term postsecondary success among Breakthrough students.
As a primary provider of direct services to students and their families, the CCSC is committed to the academic, career, and personal development of students as they navigate bachelor's degree pathways, including community college-to-university transfer and direct enrollment at four-year institutions. This role carries a direct caseload of up to 75 students (primarily enrolled in two-year and four-year colleges and universities), as well as direct supervision of an AmeriCorps member with a similar caseload. This role reports to the Director of the College & Career Success Team. To achieve the above, Breakthrough's College & Career Success Program Coordinator will:
Postsecondary Advising
- Manage a caseload of up to 75 students, primarily enrolled in two-year and four-year colleges and universities, supporting their persistence, transfer (where applicable), and progress toward bachelor's degree completion
- Develop meaningful relationships with Breakthrough college students and recent high school graduates and their families via phone, text, social media, email, and individual/group meetings
- Meet or exceed standards of service for student contact based on tiered support levels and accurately document all interactions in the Salesforce databaseTravel to campuses around Central Texas and across the state (caseload dependent) to meet face-to-face with students and campus partners
Stewarding Young Adults
- Assist college students and recent graduates with enrollment, re-enrollment, transfer pathways, financial aid processes, and academic planning aligned to degree completion and career goals
- Support students navigating institutional transitions, including transfer from community college to four-year universities and changes in major or career pathway
Resource Connection
- Connect students to wraparound services that support persistence and degree completion, including emergency aid, mental health counseling referrals, and other student support resources
- Experience working in a public or private university academic advising or financial aid office a plus
Data Tracking and Evaluation
- Collect and analyze college persistence, transfer, and completion data to identify trends, barriers, and student support needs
- Design and provide timely reports regarding program outputs, outcomes, and student progression toward bachelor's attainment
Relationship Building
- Foster a healthy, collaborative culture within the College & Career Success team and across the organization
- Participate in committees and workgroups to support team planning, organizational change efforts, and cross-functional initiatives
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Program Delivery and Design
- Design, coordinate, and facilitate programs and events that support postsecondary success
- Drive student success in alignment with Breakthrough's mission of supporting students on their path to becoming first-generation college graduates and bachelor's degree holders
ABOUT YOU
Breakthrough Central Texas seeks a talented, collaborative, and equity-minded professional to support the day-to-day leadership and implementation of college completion advising and programming. The ideal candidate demonstrates operational leadership, strong relationship-building skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in support of postsecondary persistence and student success. Because of the size of the organization and the fast-paced nature of the work, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate strength in the following competencies:
- CCST - Postsecondary Advising: Skillfully supports young adults in navigating the transition to and through postsecondary education by providing individualized guidance on institution and degree program fit, financial aid, registration and enrollment processes, degree progress, career exploration, and re-enrollment pathways. Coordinates support systems and campus resources to help students persist, address barriers, and maintain continuous enrollment, including applying the CASVE model when relevant.
- CCST - Stewarding Young Adults: Effectively and compassionately guides, coaches, and advocates for young adults as they transition into adulthood and increase independence. Builds trusting relationships that foster self-efficacy, accountability, decision-making, and resilience while supporting students in navigating personal, academic, financial, and life transitions.
- Data Tracking and Evaluation: Submits timely, accurate, and comprehensive case notes and program data while tracking and analyzing trends to inform student support strategies, improve program delivery, and ensure progress toward advising, persistence, and team goals. Uses data to prioritize action, strengthen operational effectiveness, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Resource Connection: Works collaboratively with Breakthrough's Student and Family Support Specialist and external partners to connect students and families to non-academic resources, including mental health, food, housing, transportation, and other support services. Ensures referrals and follow-up processes are coordinated effectively to support student well-being and persistence.
- Family Navigation and Caregiver Engagement: Builds trusting relationships with caregivers and families by providing accessible communication, guidance, and resources that support student engagement and success. Partners with families consistently to navigate academic, postsecondary, and institutional processes while strengthening family connection to programming and services.
- Program Design and Delivery: Uses appropriate content knowledge and operational planning skills to design, coordinate, and facilitate programs and events that support postsecondary success. Delivers engaging experiences for groups of varying sizes while ensuring programming aligns with intended outcomes, organizational priorities, and student developmental needs.
- Youth Development: Meets young people where they are and responds in developmentally appropriate ways that support social-emotional growth, self-efficacy, and academic identity development. Creates supportive environments that foster belonging, accountability, and student engagement across individual and group settings.
- Campus, Institutional, and Systemic Navigation and Partner Cultivation: Works effectively within schools, postsecondary institutions, and community systems to support student success. Builds and maintains productive working relationships with campus staff, counselors, administrators, and community partners to improve coordination, remove barriers, and strengthen program implementation while stewarding Breakthrough partnerships.
- Talent Development: Includes coaching, providing effective and timely feedback, and delivering structured training and support to a direct AmeriCorps member. The Program Coordinator actively supports the AmeriCorps member in setting priorities, building skills, meeting performance and program goals, and growing toward their professional and developmental aspirations.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Competitive salary between $56,500-$74,500 depending on experience and qualifications
- Health, dental and vision insurance; Breakthrough pays 100% of employee only premiums
- Long-term disability and life insurance
- Matching 401K retirement plan
- Thirty days of annualized PTO
