Hyperbaric and Adit Works Manager

Part of the global Bouygues Construction group, which employs over 35,600 people worldwide, Bouygues Travaux Publics is a recognized leader in civil engineering and major infrastructure development, delivering innovative and sustainable projects across the globe. In the United States, Civil and Building North America (CBNA) leads the delivery of complex underground and infrastructure projects. CBNA notably delivered the Port of Miami Tunnel in 2014 and the Pawtucket CSO Tunnel in 2025, and is currently working on major projects such as the Potomac River Tunnel in the Washington, DC area.

Description of the project: The Potomac River Tunnel project is a landmark initiative under the Clean Rivers Project. The project aims to construct a nearly 5.5 miles tunnel beneath the Potomac River with 2 different TBM, serving as a critical infrastructure element to control combined sewer overflows. This will significantly enhance the water quality of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers and Rock Creek while bolstering the sewer system's capacity.

Position Summary: The Hyperbaric Adit Works Manager is responsible for the highest risk and most technical elements of the tunnel scope. During excavation, you'll manage hyperbaric interventions, cutting tool strategy across two TBM drives, and slurry treatment plant performance. As the drives complete, you will take construction responsibility for the adit works, which are prepared in parallel and executed once the TBMs are through.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hyperbaric Interventions – Plan and oversee compressed air entry operations, including safety protocols, in-house workforce management (lock attendants and workers), medical subcontractor coordination, pre-entry readiness checks, face condition control, and exposure record keeping.
  • Cutting Tools – Manage the complete tool lifecycle: wear forecasting, condition monitoring, change scheduling, vendor refurbishment coordination, and KPI reporting (cost per meter, tools per ring, etc.).
  • Adit Works – Lead adit excavation and construction from preparation through final lining, including design coordination, work plan approval, crew/plant management, and interface coordination with shaft and CSO teams.
  • Slurry Treatment Plant – Oversee plant performance, manage the separation equipment chain (screens, cyclones, centrifuges, filter presses), maintain critical spares, and ensure compliance with spoil/water discharge standards.
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance – Set HSE standards across compressed air, confined space, hot works, and logistics; deliver to approved specifications and manage risk assessments.
  • Team & Cost Management – Lead a multidisciplinary team across shifts, own the budget for the scope, and report progress, risks and KPIs.

Skills & Qualifications: Civil/mining/mechanical engineering degree or trade equivalent 10+ years experience in mechanized tunneling Proven hyperbaric intervention and supervisory experience Demonstrated ability to build and certify compressed air teams Medically fit for compressed air work and able to obtain the required clearance Fluent English
