Job description

Senior Accountant

Position
This position will support the Controller and is responsible for accuracy of financial data, including but not limited to cost accounting, margin analysis, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, fixed asset maintenance, planning and process improvements. This position works closely with Operations, Purchasing, Production, Engineering, Sales, and Management to ensure accurate financial reporting and to provide meaningful information to support operational and business decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and analyze manufacturing cost accounting records, including direct materials, direct labor and manufacturing overhead. Assess current state and recommend improvements.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining appropriate labor and overhead rates.
  • Develop and maintain reports related to manufacturing performance, product costs, margins, inventory, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform variance analysis and work with Operations and Purchasing to identify root causes and corrective actions
  • Assist with monthly financial statements, journal entries and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Support physical inventory and cycle-count programs
  • Assist management in evaluating capital expenditures, cost-saving initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Calculate and report key metrics to achieve goals and drive process improvements.
  • Document accounting procedures and recommend changes.
  • Assist with internal controls and assist with external audit and tax preparation.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial analyses for management.
  • May be asked to work in all facets of accounting, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger and Payroll, as needed.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field of study
  • Five or more years of proven progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting and inventory accounting.
  • Experience with standard costing and manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting and modeling, including P amp;L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
  • Strong MS Office experience. Proficient in excel, including pivot tables, charts and complex formulas. Experience working with report writing or business intelligence tools a plus.
  • Previous experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (SAP preferred)
  • Experience with product costing, bill of materials, routings, and manufacturing overhead.
  • Prefer, experience with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prefer, experience in a multi-product or engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
  • Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and propose solutions to non-standard situations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Operations and other departments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic business and work environment and work independently while balancing multiple priorities.
