What is a workforce optimization?

A Workforce Optimization (WFO) job focuses on improving efficiency, productivity, and employee performance within an organization. This role typically involves analyzing workforce data, optimizing schedules, implementing technology solutions, and enhancing customer service operations. Professionals in WFO use tools like forecasting, performance analytics, and automation to ensure the right number of employees are available at the right time. Their goal is to balance operational efficiency with employee engagement while meeting business objectives.

What does a workforce optimization do?

As a Workforce Optimization professional, your daily responsibilities often include analyzing staffing levels, monitoring call volumes (if in a contact center), forecasting workforce demand, and adjusting schedules to meet changing business needs. You will typically collaborate closely with operations managers, team leads, and HR to ensure departments are properly staffed while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs. Regular tasks may also involve generating reports, reviewing performance data, and making real-time recommendations based on analytics. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to influence productivity and contribute directly to organizational success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in workforce optimization?

To excel in Workforce Optimization, proficiency in data analysis, forecasting, and workforce planning is essential, often supported by a background in business, HR, or operations management. Familiarity with workforce management (WFM) platforms such as NICE, Kronos, or Genesys, and certifications like Six Sigma or Workforce Management Professional (CWMP) are highly valued. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualifications enable effective deployment of resources, improved operational efficiency, and alignment of staffing with organizational goals.

Job description

Company Description

Achieve is a leading digital personal finance company. We help everyday people move from struggling to thriving by providing innovative, personalized financial solutions. By leveraging proprietary data and analytics, our solutions are tailored for each step of our member's financial journey to include personal loans, home equity loans, debt consolidation, financial tools and education. Every day, we get to help our members move their finances forward with care, compassion, and empathetic touch. We put people first and treat them like humans, not account numbers.

Job Description

Achieve is seeking an experienced, strategically minded and AI agile Sr. HR Business Partner to join our team.  As the Sr. HR Business Partner for a designated client group within Achieve, you will serve as the dedicated strategic talent champion.  Operating in close partnership with the HR Strategic Talent Leader, you will align talent strategies directly with executive priorities, helping these specialized functions scale efficiently and maintain high-performance standards.

Qualifications

Overview of Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Advisory: Act as a strategic talent connector for the assigned client group at Achieve in partnership with the HR Strategic Talent Leader. You will partner with Director-and-above leaders to bridge the gap between business strategy and human potential, translating executive priorities into workforce plans that drive scalability and high-performance outcomes.
  • Assess/Reward/Develop/Engage Programmatic Implementation: Champion the Assess/Reward/Develop/Engage framework (known internally as project ARDEvark) within your assigned client group organization.  You will not merely deploy this strategy—you will embed it into the cultural fabric, guiding our teams through an integrated evolution of assessment, rewards, development, and engagement that sets the standard for our organization.
  • Organizational Design: Design for impact. You will challenge the status quo by providing expert counsel on team structures, role clarity, and workforce optimization, ensuring our teams are built for agility, growth, and long-term operational success.
  • High-Performance Coaching: Cultivate leadership excellence. You will advise and challenge leaders to build robust talent pipelines and clear career architectures. Your focus is on the human side of our specialized roles—driving deep engagement and ensuring our subject matter experts have the path to reach their full potential.
  • Pod Collaboration: Operate at the strategic tier. By seamlessly leveraging the HR Representative & Leaves Pod to manage tactical operations, you will maintain a rigorous focus on forward-looking initiatives, ensuring your capacity is dedicated to solving complex organizational challenges rather than administrative maintenance.

Qualifications & Experience

Background & Academic Foundation

  • Professional Journey: You bring a minimum of ten years of increasing HR responsibility. Ideally, your background includes supporting a wide variety of organizations (sales, operations, shared services)  within a high-velocity organizational setting.
  • Strategic Evolution: You possess the demonstrated capacity to pivot from administrative execution to a high-impact advisory role, leveraging pod-based operational support to maintain a rigorous focus on talent strategy.
  • Credentials: You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Advanced professional certifications such as PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP are highly regarded.

Competencies

  • Business Acumen: You have financial acumen and will use this to understand how Achieve makes money. You translate business strategies into actionable workforce plans, ensuring that every talent decision positively impacts the P&L and aligns with our broader organizational goals.
  • Strategic Consulting: You are a trusted advisor, not just a problem solver. You employ proactive project management and sharp risk mitigation to navigate complex organizational challenges, providing clarity to leadership where others see chaos.
  • Relationship Management: You build deep, collaborative networks across functions. You wield influence with empathy and possess the fortitude to stand firm on critical precedents, ensuring risk mitigation without sacrificing the trusted relationships that drive our culture.
  • Data Judgement: You are a 'People Scientist' who goes beyond surface-level metrics. You interpret complex data to tell compelling stories, diagnosing the 'why' behind attrition or performance trends to shape proactive, data-backed talent interventions.
  • Talent Management: You don't just administer programs; you architect talent strategies. You champion the ARDEvark framework, driving high-performance coaching, organizational design, and technological adoption to keep our teams scaling efficiently.
  • Agility: You thrive in the fast-paced fintech landscape. You lead with a growth mindset, navigating ambiguity and structural pivots with resilience, ensuring our teams stay engaged and productive through constant, rapid change.
