Job description

Wood is currently seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to support our growth in several key US Geographic locations.ย 

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will focus on identifying, positioning, and securing construction-led opportunities across heavy industrial markets, with emphasis on mechanical, piping, civil/structural, and related field execution services. Electrical and instrumentation experience is preferred but not required.ย 

This hybrid opportunity is based in the Greater Houston area and supports multiple U.S. locations, with a particular focus on the Gulf Coast region.

The Role

Reporting to the VP of Business Development, this position willย focus on expandingย construction opportunities across refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, LNG, terminals, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial markets.

The successful candidate willย be responsible forย developing and advancing client relationships,ย identifyingย construction-led opportunities, supporting pursuit strategy, and positioning Wood early for work across mechanical, piping, civil/structural, and related field execution scopes. Electrical and instrumentation experience is considered an added benefit.

This role requires aย candidate with strong Gulf Coast market knowledge and either existing client relationshipsย or a demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with owner/operators, EPC/EPCM firms, procurement organizations, construction leaders, project directors, and site-level stakeholders.ย

Expected:ย 

  • Bachelor'sย degree inย a technical, construction management, business,ย or related fieldย 
  • 12+ย yearsย experienceย inย businessย development, construction,ย projectย execution,ย operations, maintenance, or commercial roles within the heavy industrial marketย 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or developing construction-led opportunities in the Gulfย Coast regionย 
  • Experience inย engineering,ย procurement,ย construction, EPC, EPCM, maintenance, turnaround, field services, or industrial construction environmentsย 
  • Strong understanding of heavy industrial construction scopes, particularly mechanical, piping, and civil/structural. Electrical and instrumentation experience is preferred but notย requiredย 
  • Existing client relationships orย demonstratedย ability to build relationships with Gulf Coastย owner/operators, EPC/EPCM firms, procurement organizations, construction leaders, project directors, site leaders, and technical stakeholdersย 
  • Sound understanding of projects in theย refining, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, terminal, manufacturing, or broader heavy industrial sectorsย 
  • Proficient in use of Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools and systems, with strong discipline around opportunity management, forecasting, and pipeline accuracyย 
  • Good understanding of the economic,ย commercial, safety, and executionย drivers inย construction andย EPC/EPCMย businessesย 
  • Experience developing account plans, relationship maps, zippering plans, win strategies, and pursuit plansย 
  • Experienceย with the key concepts of HSE leadership, construction safety culture, and field execution riskย 
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office tools,ย includingย ย Word,ย Excel,ย andย PowerPointย 
  • Demonstratedย proactive and outcome-driven attitudeย

  • Build,ย maintain, andย leverageย trusted client relationships toย identifyย opportunities early, understand client drivers, and position Wood before formal procurement or bid eventsย 
  • Identification, validation and leadership of key prospects and opportunitiesย 
  • Facilitate client meetings, site visits,ย andย presentations, and executive engagement withย appropriate Woodย personnel to supportย ourย client needs andย supportย business objectivesย 
  • Responsible for the full ownership of 3-5 Key Client accounts,ย including account planning,ย developingย zippering plans,ย relationship mapping, opportunityย strategyย development, andย Clientย engagement plansย 
  • Create, review, manage,ย andย maintainย theย integrity of all opportunity records in Wood's CRM system to ensure accuracy, governance,ย and complianceย

  • Support proposal development, client presentations, commercial agreements, and negotiation strategies for construction-led opportunitiesย 
  • Coordinateย input into the Lead Review Meeting (LRM) process andย participateย in reviews withย segment, regional, and construction leadershipย
