What You'll Do:

The Workforce Specialist assists homeless and at-risk parents participating in the TANF Homeless Program with employment preparation, workforce development, job placement, and career advancement services. The Workforce Specialist supports participants in achieving economic self-sufficiency by connecting them to employment opportunities, vocational training, educational programs, and industry-recognized certifications. Services are provided throughout Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany Parishes.

  • Conduct employment assessments to identify participant skills, interests, and employment barriers.
  • Develop individualized employment and career plans.
  • Provide one-on-one employment coaching and career counseling.
  • Assist participants with resume development, cover letters, employment applications, and job search activities.
  • Conduct mock interviews and provide interview preparation and workplace readiness training.
  • Provide instruction and coaching in professional communication, business etiquette, and soft skills development.
  • Assist participants with digital literacy and basic computer skills necessary for employment.
  • Connect participants to vocational training, certification programs, HiSET preparation, and workforce development opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local employers, training providers, workforce agencies, and community partners.
  • Assist participants with obtaining employment and retaining employment.
  • Monitor participant progress toward employment goals and document outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers to ensure coordinated service delivery and support participant housing stability.
  • Maintain accurate records, employment outcomes, training participation data, and required program documentation.
  • Participate in program meetings, reporting activities, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Conduct weekly group sessions for program participants.
  • Enter client demographic information and services offered in Apricot in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in workforce development, employment services, career counseling, job placement, or related field preferred.
  • Strong communication, presentation, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or economic hardship preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel throughout Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany Parishes.
  • Must be willing to travel to Covington at least once per week to meet with program participants.
  • Ability to conduct workshops, training sessions, and community outreach activities.
