Job description

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading daily maintenance operations, driving preventive maintenance strategies, and ensuring equipment reliability across all production areas. This role oversees maintenance personnel, manages work execution, and supports continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, cost, and productivity. The Maintenance Supervisor plays a key role in implementing maintenance systems, optimizing labor, and coordinating cross-functional efforts to improve overall plant performance.

Typical Schedule: This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Evening, weekend and holiday work may be required as job duties demand.


Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance Operations & Execution

 Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities across all production lines (Rim, Disc, Paint, Utilities, etc.)

 Assign and prioritize work orders, ensuring timely completion of breakdowns, planned work, and PM tasks

 Monitor and improve response time (MTTR) and equipment uptime

 Ensure proper troubleshooting, repair, and root cause analysis is performed

 Support shift-to-shift communication and pass-down processes


2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM)

 Lead development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Preventive Maintenance programs

 Monitor PM compliance, backlog, and effectiveness

 Drive reduction of reactive maintenance through improved PM strategies

 Identify critical assets and optimize maintenance frequency and scope

 Ensure follow-up work orders are properly identified and executed


3. Labor Management & Workforce Development

 Supervise and develop maintenance technicians and team leads

 Manage manpower planning, scheduling, and shift coverage

 Monitor labor hours (regular, overtime, double time) against budget

 Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed

 Support training programs and skill development (multi-craft progression)


4. Planning & Scheduling

 Coordinate weekly and long-term maintenance schedules

 Balance planned work, PMs, and reactive maintenance

 Support major shutdown planning and execution

 Ensure jobs are properly scoped and planned prior to execution

 Work closely with engineering and production to align priorities


5. Safety, Quality & Compliance

 Enforce all safety policies and procedures

 Ensure safe work practices, including LOTO and confined space procedures

 Support audits, inspections, and corrective actions

 Maintain compliance with company standards and documentation requirements

 Promote a culture of safety and accountability


6. Continuous Improvement & Projects

 Lead and support improvement initiatives (cost reduction, efficiency, reliability)

 Participate in cross-functional projects (engineering, production, safety)

 Drive initiatives such as energy reduction, downtime elimination, and process improvements

 Develop SOPs, One Point Lessons, and standard work documentation

 Support capital projects and equipment upgrades


7. Communication & Leadership

 Act as a key liaison between maintenance, engineering, production, and management

 Provide regular updates on maintenance performance and issues

 Lead team meetings, shift pass-downs, and daily direction setting

 Maintain clear and structured communication across all levels of the organization


8. Training & Development Programs

 Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the maintenance training program

 Identify skill gaps and create structured training plans for maintenance technicians

 Coordinate and track training progress, certifications, and skill progression (multi-craft development)

 Develop training materials, including SOPs, One Point Lessons, and hands-on training modules

 Support onboarding and qualification of new maintenance employees

 Ensure training aligns with safety standards, equipment requirements, and operational needs


9. Utilities & Vendor Management

 Coordinate and oversee maintenance activities for plant utilities, including Preventive Maintenance (PM), breakdown response, and continuous improvement initiatives

 Work with external vendors and service providers to ensure reliable operation and timely execution of maintenance activities

 Ensure all utility systems meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal performance expectations

 Manage and hold vendors accountable for quality of work, responsiveness, and adherence to plant standards

 Support and drive initiatives to reduce downtime, improve system reliability, and increase operational efficiency

 Utilities include, but are not limited to: Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs), boilers, air compressors, overhead cranes, water systems, and natural gas systems


Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages 18 hourly maintenance associates and is responsible for the performance

management, coaching, and hiring of employees within the department.


Qualifications

Education:

 Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred

 Equivalent experience will be considered

Experience:

 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience

 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred

Technical Skills:

 Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems

 Experience with maintenance systems and scheduling tools

 Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the manufacturing

environment can be loud. This role also operates within an office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers.


TRAVEL

This position requires minimal travel with majority in the local area during normal business operations.

Associates in electrical and mechanical maintenance or similar degree or equivalent experience
