Job description

As a senior engineering manager for our workflow automation team, you'll guide development and architecture for the implementation of our enterprise operating system. You'll manage a team of engineers, building out a workflow automation platform and developing executable business processes that can be operated interchangeably by humans and AI agents. As an essential part of our scaling story for both business operations and technological capabilities, you'll devise solutions that create leverage for thousands of employees and drive efficient growth. Your team will work as part of our Engineering & AI organization, focusing on scalability and correctness with a modern toolchain. This is a value-delivery role with executive visibility, not a cost-center role, and provides a chance to perform a greenfield implementation aligned with a key set of strategic goals.
Essential Job Functions
  • Establishing a platform
    • Establish and maintain SLAs.
    • Integrate ServiceNow and other case management providers with company-wide observability and tracing standards.
    • Implement scalable patterns for durable execution and workflows-as-code.
    • Build automated deployment and testing workflows, delivering a modern development lifecycle built around version control with continuous validation and deployment.
    • Define default design guidelines and architectural principles to maintain sanity in a rapidly growing environment.
    • Manage costs and resource scaling.
  • Building solutions
    • Design solutions to targeted business needs, selecting from platform capabitilies (durable execution, orchestration) and ServiceNow-specific capabilities like Flow Designer, Case Management/Playbooks, Integration Hub, and AI.
    • Extend platform capabilities to maximize automatable workflow coverage.
    • Craft solutions with a security-first, observability-first mindset.
  • Growing the team
    • Shape team roles to drive the right team structure.
    • Run a structured & intentional hiring process to bring in top talent.
    • Establish key relationships with business domain leaders to train or embed focused development teams.

Other Skills & Abilities
  • Comfortable with at least one common programming language (Python, Typescript) and SQL.
  • Database and distributed system fundamentals.
  • Experience with our core stack (Python, Kafka, Postgres, AWS).

Physical Requirements
  • Talking, hearing and using hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Attendance and presence at work-site is an expectation.

Education & Experience
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years leading a software engineering or data engineering team.
  • 10+ years of experience building software, data, or ML systems.
  • Experience building with Typescript in a group setting.
  • Database and distributed system fundamentals.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • Practical experience with durable execution frameworks like DBOS or Temporal.
  • Experience with our core stack (Python/Typescript, Kafka, Postgres, AWS/GCP).
  • Deep understanding of ServiceNow product portfolio (what to use, what to avoid, and how to optimize).
  • Experience managing large ServiceNow environments and upgrades.
  • Practical experience using code-driven workflows to manage ServiceNow (Fluent, SDKs).
