Job description

Summary
The Maintenance Helper reports to the Facility Operations Supervisor. Responsibilities include repair and/or assist in general preventative and corrective maintenance of buildings and equipment, providing assistance to the security department in landing of emergency aircraft, assisting other Facilities workers as well as running errands, and other duties as assigned.(Excluding LEAD Responsibilities)
Responsibilities
(25%)* Completes less complex work orders regarding repairs and general maintenance.
(25%)* Maintains mechanical rooms and storage areas(i.e. Lighting, Housekeeping, Painting, Minor
Repair)
(25%)* Assists in the preventative and corrective maintenance including plumbing, minor electrical, HVAC, equipment and roof when instructed.
(25%)* Performs certain Facility Operations housekeeping duties, ie. Shop cleanup and parts room sorting and inventory.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
During Snow Events - Maintains all parking lots, walks and stairs by plowing, shoveling or spreading salt when warranted.
Assists in the landing of emergency aircraft by securing landing area.
Runs errands for facility operations department, both in town and out of town.
Observes safety rules and follows Medical Center policies and procedures. Has conscious thoughts to identify unsafe conditions in all areas of the campus and does follow-up by fixing immediately if warranted or by communicating problem to supervisor.
Works with various groups of individuals. Maintains strong customer relations with these groups as well as with co-workers.
Performs other duties as needed. (Excluding LEAD Responsibilities)
Certifications and Licensures
DRIVERSLIC - Drivers License
Required Equivalent Experience - Must have a current, valid Michigan driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
Required Education
Education: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Sufficient ,practical experience to warrant on-the-job training.
Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
Must be mechanically inclined.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Heavy. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 51-100
lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 50 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and
constantly (67-100% of the workday) 20 lbs.
