Job Description
Versademics Learning Centers is seeking two Federal Work Study Students to serve as Afterschool Group Leaders during the Fall 2026 semester.
Versademics is a nonprofit afterschool and summer program serving K-12 youth in Pitt County. Our name blends "versatile" and "academics," reflecting our mission to develop scholars who excel academically, socially, and in extracurriculars. Since 2020, we have served hundreds of families across Winterville, Greenville, Belvoir, and North Greenville through a whole-child programming model.
This is a hands-on role with youth. A typical afternoon includes greeting scholars at dismissal, supporting homework and academic practice, leading small-group enrichment activities, supervising snack and recreation, and building consistent relationships with the scholars in your group.
Job Duties:
  • Lead and supervise an assigned small group of K-8 scholars throughout the afterschool schedule
  • Execute prepared activity plans and social-emotional learning (SEL) curricula
  • Provide homework help and academic support during designated academic blocks
  • Facilitate enrichment activities including arts, STEM projects, physical activity, and team-building games
  • Supervise scholars during snack, transitions, recreation, and dismissal
  • Use positive, consistent classroom management strategies grounded in patience and respect
  • Build genuine relationships with scholars and serve as a positive role model
  • Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, fellow staff, and program leadership
  • Participate in staff orientation and weekly staff meetings
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and incident documentation as needed
  • Help with daily setup, cleanup, and care of program spaces

GPA Requirement
Minimum of 2.0
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
  • Majors in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, Recreation, Public Health, or related fields are a strong fit, but all majors are welcome
  • Prior experience working with children or youth in any capacity (afterschool, tutoring, coaching, babysitting, camp, etc.)
  • Reliable transportation to Winterville, NC
  • Availability Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Patience, energy, and a genuine interest in the lives of young people
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus but not required (training available)

License/certification required
