About the Role
ExecuPOWER is seeking a Distribution Designer to support the planning and design of overhead and underground electric distribution systems throughout Eastern and Central Pennsylvania.
This is a remote/field-based position requiring regular travel throughout the assigned service territory for field surveys, staking, GPS data collection, and site investigations.
The Distribution Designer will develop accurate, constructible design packages that meet utility standards, NESC requirements, regulatory requirements, and client-specific specifications while supporting safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric distribution projects.
The ideal candidate has experience in electric utility distribution design, CAD, GIS, field staking, or utility engineering and can effectively collaborate with engineers, project managers, construction personnel, and utility clients.
What You'll Do
Electric Distribution Design
  • Prepare detailed design packages for overhead and underground electric distribution systems, including staking sheets, construction drawings, and work order packages.
  • Develop accurate layouts, profiles, and construction drawings using CAD and GIS design platforms.
  • Utilize software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, GIS Distribution Design Studio, or similar utility design applications.
  • Interpret field conditions, utility standards, engineering requirements, and client specifications and incorporate them into distribution designs.
  • Prepare designs for residential, commercial, and industrial electric distribution projects.
  • Support transformer sizing, voltage drop calculations, load balancing, and other basic distribution design calculations.
  • Prepare bills of material (BOMs), cost estimates, material requirements, and construction prints.

Field Design & Survey
  • Conduct field surveys and staking activities for new installations, system upgrades, maintenance, and reliability improvement projects.
  • Collect GPS and field data and accurately document existing utility facilities and site conditions.
  • Identify overhead and underground distribution equipment, facilities, and electrical configurations.
  • Verify elevations and existing facility conditions.
  • Perform or coordinate test pitting when necessary to determine existing facility depths.
  • Take photographs and document field conditions to support engineering and construction activities.
  • Travel throughout the assigned territory as required to support field design activities.

Project Coordination & Documentation
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, construction teams, and utility representatives to ensure design scope and deliverables align with project requirements.
  • Assist with permitting, rights-of-way, easements, and other project documentation as required.
  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure design information is properly documented and uploaded to client and utility systems.
  • Maintain the quality, accuracy, and integrity of CAD, GIS, field, and project data.
  • Support project schedules and deadlines while maintaining a high level of design quality.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate comments and revisions as needed.

Safety & Quality
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable NESC, utility, regulatory, and client standards.
  • Follow all company and client safety requirements during field and design activities.
  • Work safely around electric utility infrastructure and construction environments.
  • Maintain quality control throughout the design and documentation process.
  • Support emergency and storm-related activities when required by client expectations.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical coursework in electric utility design, engineering technology, CAD, GIS, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in electric utility distribution design, drafting, fielding, construction, or a related utility environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, utility maps, and electrical distribution drawings.
  • Working knowledge of electric distribution systems and utility construction practices.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and familiarity with GIS platforms.
  • Basic understanding of NESC and utility distribution design standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate design documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the assigned territory.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with overhead and underground electric distribution design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MicroStation, GIS Distribution Design Studio, or similar utility design software.
  • Experience with field staking, GPS data collection, utility fielding, or construction inspection.
  • Knowledge of utility work management and design systems such as EFD, INFOR, or similar platforms.
