Job description

Learning Experience Designer (LXD)
Independent Contractor Opening

We are seeking Independent Contractors to provide Learning Experience Design services on a project-based or hourly basis, supporting the design, development, and delivery of custom digital learning solutions and assets.

This is an open call for contractors. Our team will reach out to qualified candidates as needs arise.
Important: This is not a full-time role or salaried position. This opportunity is for hourly contract work, with rates ranging from $35-$45 per hour, depending on experience for individuals currently residing in Canada or the USA.

Scope of Services 

  •  Support moderately complex learning design workstreams end-to-end, ensuring quality, alignment to standards, and timely delivery.
  • Design digital, blended, microlearning, and develop instructor-led learning experiences that support business, product, and learner needs.
  • Partner with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders to analyze learning needs, clarify requirements, and translate content into effective learning solutions.
  • Develop structured learning assets, including objectives, outlines, storyboards, scripts, assessments, facilitator materials, and learner resources. 
  • Apply instructional design principles, learner experience practices, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines to create clear, engaging and inclusive learning experiences.
  • Review, test, and refine learning content to ensure accuracy, usability, accessibility, instructional effectiveness, and alignment with brand and quality standards.
  • Communicate project status, questions, risks, dependencies, and scope concerns to the appropriate stakeholders or project lead and escalate appropriately
  • Support continuous improvement of learning standards, templates, processes, and best practices.
  • Stay current with relevant learning design tools, digital learning trends, accessibility practices, and AI-enabled learning solutions.
  • Provide informal guidance to junior designers or new team members, supporting onboarding and consistent application of best practices.
  • Partner with cross functional teams.

Technical Skills and Competency

  • Experience using tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Slack or similar platforms for collaboration, documentation and design.
  • Working knowledge of Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid design and delivery approaches.
  • Familiarity with eLearning authoring tools and their functional abilities, such as Articulate Storyline/Rise.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design models and learning science, such as ADDIE, SAM, Blooms Taxonomy, scenario-based learning and performance-based design.
  • Experience applying design principles, including learner journeys, cognitive load, and engagement strategies.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled learning tools for content ideation, drafting, personalization, accessibility support and workflow efficiency.
  • Ability to translate complex technical, product, or process information into clear, learner centered learning experiences.
Strong Preference
  • Experience designing and delivering learning solutions across Financial Services business areas

Nice-to-have 

  • Adobe After Effects experience 
  • Experience with learning management systems 
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG)
