What is a WordPress Developer?

A WordPress Developer is a professional who specializes in designing, developing, and maintaining websites using the WordPress platform. They create custom themes and plugins, optimize website performance, and ensure security and scalability. WordPress Developers may also integrate third-party services, troubleshoot issues, and provide updates to keep websites running smoothly. Their expertise covers both front-end and back-end development within the WordPress ecosystem.

What does a WordPress Developer do?

A WordPress developer creates applications using the WordPress open-source content management system (CMS). The WordPress CMS is very popular among bloggers, media sites, and other online forums. Your responsibilities as a WordPress developer vary with the position, but often include coding and developing plugins to extend its functionality to specific tasks. Your duties also involve customizing a build and creating modules to a client’s specifications. Once the site is established, you perform routine maintenance to ensure the site continues to run smoothly and update the platform and its components. You typically work with a variety of programming languages and may also oversee the security components of the system.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a WordPress Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a WordPress Developer, you need strong skills in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a solid understanding of WordPress core, themes, and plugins, often supported by a relevant degree or web development certifications. Familiarity with development tools like Git, MySQL databases, popular page builders, and REST APIs is commonly required. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills that help you collaborate with clients and teams. These abilities ensure you can build secure, scalable, and user-friendly WordPress websites that meet client needs and industry standards.

How does a WordPress Developer typically collaborate with designers and content creators on website projects?

WordPress Developers often work closely with designers to translate visual concepts into functional themes and with content creators to ensure website structure supports their needs. Collaboration usually involves regular meetings to discuss project goals, sharing feedback during development sprints, and using tools like Slack, Trello, or Jira to manage tasks and updates. This teamwork ensures that the final website not only looks appealing but also provides a seamless user experience and is easy for non-technical team members to update. Effective communication and flexibility are key to aligning technical capabilities with creative vision and content requirements.

Job description

Project Manager – Digital Marketing Agency

Are you a detail-obsessed multitasker who thrives on bringing order to creative chaos? Do you love seeing marketing campaigns and websites come to life—on time and on budget? If so, we’d love to meet you.

We’re looking for a Project Manager to join our growing digital marketing agency. In this role, you’ll be the glue that keeps our cross-functional teams aligned and our clients smiling. You’ll manage both digital advertising campaigns and website projects, ensuring seamless execution from kickoff to launch.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage multiple client projects, including digital ad campaigns (Google, Meta, programmatic) and website builds or redesigns
  • Create and maintain project timelines, scopes, and deliverables in collaboration with internal teams and external clients
  • Lead client communication, updates, and status calls, acting as the primary point of contact throughout the project lifecycle
  • Collaborate with advertising specialists, marketing specialists, web designers/developers, and other stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met
  • Anticipate roadblocks, troubleshoot issues, and escalate as needed to keep projects on track
  • Track budgets, hours, and resource allocations using project management tools (e.g. Accelo, Asana, Trello, Monday.com)

Requirements

  • 3+ years of project management experience in a digital marketing, advertising, or creative agency setting
  • Strong understanding of digital advertising (Google Ads, Facebook/Meta Ads, etc.) and performance metrics
  • Experience managing web projects (WordPress, Shopify, custom builds) and working with design and development teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills—you can translate tech talk and marketing lingo into plain English
  • Comfort juggling multiple deadlines and stakeholders with grace and good humor
  • Familiarity with PM tools (bonus if you’ve used Accelo, ClickUp, or similar)

Bonus Points

  • Google Ads or Meta certification
  • Experience working with franchise brands or multilocation businesses
  • Familiarity with agile or scrum methodologies

Why Join Us?
We’re a tight-knit team that believes in doing great work and enjoying the process. You’ll get to work with national and local brands, collaborate with talented teammates, and make a measurable impact every day.

Some of our other perks include:

  • 401K with employer match
  • Medical, Dental and Vision benefits
  • Generous PTO with annual accrual, plus sick days and holidays
  • Competitive pay and growth opportunities
  • Collaborative team environment
  • Regular company lunches and events
  • Flexible schedules
