What you will do:

The Wood Finisher is responsible for preparing, staining, painting, glazing, and finishing wood doors, millwork, and related building products to meet customer specifications and company quality standards. This role uses HVLP spray equipment, hand-finishing techniques, and specialized tools to produce consistent, high-quality finishes while maintaining established production schedules.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and takes pride in quality craftsmanship. This position works closely with Production, Quality, and other manufacturing team members to ensure finished products meet appearance, performance, and customer requirements.

Wood Preparation & Finishing

  • Prepare wood doors, millwork, and related products for finishing through sanding, cleaning, surface preparation, and inspection
  • Apply stains, paints, sealers, topcoats, and specialty finishes according to work orders and product specifications
  • Safely operate High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray equipment to produce consistent, professional-quality finishes
  • Perform hand-applied finishing techniques, including glazing, hand wiping, touch-up, and detail work
  • Mix, prepare, and handle finishing materials according to established procedures and manufacturer instructions
  • Ensure proper application coverage, color consistency, appearance, and finish quality
  • Protect products from scratches, dents, contamination, and other damage throughout the finishing process

Work Orders & Production

  • Read and interpret work orders, product specifications, color requirements, and finishing instructions
  • Verify products and finishing requirements before beginning work
  • Prioritize assigned work to meet production schedules and customer deadlines
  • Adapt to changing production priorities and workload requirements
  • Communicate material, quality, or production concerns promptly to supervisors
  • Work collaboratively with production team members to maintain efficient workflow

Quality Control

  • Inspect surfaces before finishing to identify defects, damage, or preparation concerns
  • Inspect completed products to verify finish quality and compliance with customer requirements
  • Identify and correct imperfections, inconsistencies, or finishing defects when appropriate
  • Perform touch-up and corrective finishing work as needed
  • Maintain a high standard of craftsmanship while minimizing rework, scrap, and material waste
  • Report nonconforming materials or recurring quality concerns to supervisors

Spray Equipment & Tool Maintenance

  • Properly operate, clean, and maintain HVLP spray equipment and finishing tools
  • Assist with operation of airless, air-assisted, cup gun, or other approved spray systems when trained
  • Inspect spray guns, hoses, nozzles, filters, and related equipment before use
  • Maintain finishing tools and equipment in clean and serviceable condition
  • Report equipment malfunctions, damaged tools, or maintenance concerns promptly
  • Store finishing materials and equipment according to established safety procedures

Material Handling & Production Support

  • Safely handle, move, stage, and position doors, millwork products, and finishing materials
  • Assist with movement of finished products to appropriate staging or production areas
  • Protect finished surfaces during handling and transportation
  • Support additional woodworking, finishing, or production activities as business needs require

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable health and environmental regulations
  • Wear required PPE, including safety glasses and appropriate finishing protection
  • Safely handle paints, stains, coatings, solvents, and other finishing materials according to established procedures
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe finishing and production areas
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, spills, equipment concerns, injuries, or near misses
  • Participate in required safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement activities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

  • Experience with hand-wipe glazing and specialty finishing techniques
  • Experience working with custom wood products, doors, cabinetry, or high-end finishes
  • Familiarity with multiple spray systems, including HVLP, airless, air-assisted, and cup gun equipment
  • Experience using hand tools in woodworking, manufacturing, millwork, or construction environments
  • Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing, woodworking, and finishing environment
  • Frequent exposure to finishing materials, coatings, woodworking equipment, dust, noise, and production machinery
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical tasks
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds, using assistance or mechanical equipment when appropriate
  • Frequent handling of doors, millwork products, tools, and finishing equipment
  • Required PPE must be worn according to company procedures
  • Overtime or extended hours may be required based on production schedules and business needs
