Zions Public Finance Inc. has just opened an opportunity for a Municipal Consulting Relationship Manager based in the Salt Lake City area, covering the State of Utah and parts of the intermountain west.   

Ideal candidates will have the skills and experience necessary to

  • Explore and implement economic development tools such as tax increment areas and public infrastructure districts in appropriate, impactful solutions.
  • Evaluate and prepare long-range financial plans, impact fee and user rate analyses, feasibility studies, housing affordability analyses and other types of consulting projects.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining and managing accounts and relationships for new and existing municipal clients while maintaining a high level of client satisfaction.
  • Prospect, develop, generate and follow-up on new client leads to build a book of business.
  • Process and manage municipal consulting projects and deadlines from start to finish, consistently reviewing client needs and making recommendations as needed.
  • Prepare internal and external financial models and analysis using Excel, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping software.
  • Collect data and present findings in both written and oral format with the use of presentation programs such as PowerPoint and InDesign.
  • Design and deliver presentation materials, reports, and persuasive proposals in a professional and easy-to-follow manner.
  • Interact with consulting analysts, project partners, and clients during consulting projects, meetings (in person or virtually) to document project needs and objectives that would later be translated into data charts, graphs, tables, presentations, and written reports.
  • Monitor and track progress billings for projects including invoicing clients.
  • Travel overnight as needed.
  • Lead and train analytical staff.
  • May be asked to perform other duties and special projects.

What you need to bring to the table:  

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years of experience with municipal consulting, planning, land development, local government administration, finance, accounting, marketing, public relations, or related field.
  • Applicants should understand local government operations and issues and be familiar with the political structure and procedures surrounding local governments.
  • A combination of education and experience may meet job requirements.
  • Ability to identify, manage and solve project problems from start to completion.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and inter-personal skills.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, verbal, written, and negotiating skills.
  • Analytical ability required to gather, summarize, and interpret data for reports with a penchant for design and layout that makes data accessible to an audience.
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly express complex financial concepts both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a heavily deadline-oriented environment.
  • Superior expertise in managing multiple project-oriented tasks and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while being team oriented.
  • Excellent problem resolution and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perceive beyond the obvious when developing solutions and adapt to unique circumstances rather than applying cookie-cutter remedies.
  • Must possess a high level of motivation, initiative, and leadership skills.
  • Proven strategic thinking, communication, time management, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to quickly learn other finance-related software products as needed.
