What is WMS implementation?

WMS implementation refers to the process of deploying a Warehouse Management System (WMS) within an organization to manage warehouse operations more efficiently. This process includes selecting the right WMS software, configuring it to meet business requirements, integrating it with existing systems, and training staff. The goal of WMS implementation is to improve inventory accuracy, streamline workflows, and enhance overall warehouse productivity. Successful implementation can lead to reduced costs, better customer service, and improved inventory control.

What are some common challenges faced during a WMS implementation, and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge during a WMS (Warehouse Management System) implementation is ensuring seamless integration with existing systems, such as ERP or inventory platforms. Misalignment in data formats or workflows can lead to delays or errors. Another frequent hurdle is change management, as warehouse staff need adequate training and support to adapt to new processes. Proactive communication, thorough testing, and phased rollouts can help mitigate risks and make the transition smoother for all stakeholders involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in WMS implementation, and why are they important?

To thrive in WMS (Warehouse Management System) Implementation, you need a solid understanding of supply chain processes, warehouse operations, and relevant IT or logistics degrees or certifications. Familiarity with leading WMS software (such as SAP EWM, Manhattan, or Oracle), project management tools, and integration platforms is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help manage cross-functional teams and client expectations. These skills are crucial for ensuring smooth system deployment, minimizing disruptions, and optimizing warehouse efficiency.

Job description

Americhem is a globally recognized designer and manufacturer of custom color masterbatch, functional additives, engineered compounds and performance technologies. Our business is built around delivering Performance, Solutions and Trust through close collaboration with customers seeking to optimize their polymer products. All of our products are backed by complete technical support that ensures quality, reliability, and value.

The Oracle EBS Lead provides techno-functional leadership for the design, delivery, integration, and support of Oracle E-Business Suite R12.2.x solutions. This role partners with business and IT stakeholders to translate enterprise requirements into scalable solutions across Order-to-Cash (O2C), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Warehouse Management (WMS), Oracle Financials, and preferably Oracle Process Manufacturing (OPM).

The Lead owns solution architecture, development standards, technical delivery, testing, release readiness, and production support; guides developers and functional analysts; and ensures secure, supportable integrations with enterprise applications. The role also evaluates Oracle patches, upgrades, and product enhancements for business impact, risk, and adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Oracle EBS application roadmap and delivery portfolio, aligning enhancements, upgrades, and support priorities with business strategy.
  • Partner with business process owners to assess current and future states, define requirements, and design scalable solutions across O2C, SCM, WMS, Financials, and OPM.
  • Own solution architecture and technical design for extensions, interfaces, conversions, reports, workflows, and forms while minimizing unnecessary customization.
  • Direct technical delivery using SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, BI Publisher, Web ADI, Oracle Workflow, APIs, and concurrent programs.
  • Lead integration design and support between Oracle EBS and WMS, 3PL, e-commerce, data, financial, and other enterprise platforms, ensuring reliable data flow and process continuity.
  • Establish development, documentation, version-control, testing, security, and deployment standards that support auditability and future upgrades.
  • Plan and coordinate unit, system integration, regression, user acceptance, and performance testing; ensure defects are resolved and releases are production ready.
  • Evaluate Oracle patches, critical updates, and R12.2.x enhancements; perform impact assessments and coordinate application, database, infrastructure, and business teams.
  • Lead incident, problem, and root-cause analysis for complex production issues involving custom code, workflows, interfaces, concurrent processing, and data integrity.
  • Manage project plans, estimates, milestones, risks, dependencies, budgets, and status reporting for assigned initiatives.
  • Mentor developers and analysts, review designs and code, delegate work effectively, and build sustainable team capability.
  • Maintain effective stakeholder relationships and communicate technical topics in clear business language, including options, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive Oracle EBS techno-functional experience, including leadership of implementations, upgrades, enhancements, integrations, and production support in Oracle EBS R12.2.x environments.
  • Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end delivery across O2C, SCM, WMS, and Financials; OPM experience is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, mentor technical resources, manage delivery priorities, and communicate solution decisions, risks, and status to business and IT leadership.
  • Must have implementation experience with a deep understanding of the Oracle EBS R12.2.x suite of applications.
  • Experience troubleshooting issues and providing timely resolution to end users.

Desired Qualities/Attributes:

  • Enterprise mindset with strong ownership, sound judgment, and the ability to balance business value, technical quality, risk, and supportability.
  • Deep understanding of Oracle EBS architecture, integrated business processes, data flows, and upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, facilitation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to executives, business stakeholders, support teams, and delivery resources.
  • Structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, with a bias toward prevention, automation, and continuous improvement.
