Job description

Job Details:
Job Description:
Altera is the standalone FPGA business whose FPGAs and SoC FPGAs empower equipment makers to build differentiated networking and security platforms: production grade routers, switches, firewalls, and security appliances deployed across carrier and data center infrastructure.
We are seeking a Wireline Marketing Manager to lead marketing and technical positioning for Altera's FPGA and SoC FPGA portfolio in Routing/Switching and Security! This role bridges deep technical understanding of packet processing, traffic management, and security appliance architectures with the ability to craft compelling technical content and messaging for both internal and external audiences, while owning the business metrics that track market opportunity and performance.
As a subject matter expert and technical storyteller, you will translate complex networking and security concepts, spanning ASIC/ASSP replacement and augmentation, high speed Ethernet switching, and hardware offload for security workloads, into clear, differentiated marketing narratives that support sales enablement, customer engagement, and market positioning. This role works closely with Sales, Field Applications Engineers, Product Planning, and Engineering teams to shape go to market strategy for Altera's Wireline portfolio, and partners with peer vertical marketing managers covering Transmission and Access to keep messaging consistent across the full Wireline story.
Key Responsibilities
Market Sizing & Business KPIs
  • Build and maintain TAM/SAM models for Altera's Routing/Switching and Security sub-segments
  • Own Wireline KPI targets for these segments, including design wins, pipeline, and market share
  • Report market sizing and KPI trends to leadership to guide investment priorities

Technical Marketing & Content Creation
  • Develop white papers, solution briefs, blogs, and technical presentations covering Altera's Agilex based routing, switching, and security solutions
  • Translate complex packet processing, ASIC/ASSP replacement and augmentation, and hardware offload concepts into clear messaging for technical and business audiences
  • Create sales enablement collateral and competitive positioning materials highlighting Altera's FPGA performance per watt, features, and time to market advantages
  • Ensure technical accuracy across published content, aligned with Altera's product and IP roadmap

Market & Customer Engagement
  • Partner with Sales and FAEs on RFIs, RFPs, and technical evaluations for complex networking and security engagements
  • Support customer opportunities worldwide, becoming the sales and field go to partner for Routing/Switching and Security
  • Represent Altera at industry events, standards forums, customer briefings, and trade shows
  • Support customer facing presentations, workshops, and architecture discussions on networking and security systems
  • Gather voice of customer insights to inform messaging and go to market priorities

Internal & Cross-Functional Communications
  • Translate Altera's FPGA/IP capabilities into market relevant narratives for Sales, Engineering, Product Marketing, and Planning
  • Develop competitive analyses and market landscape updates on Routing/Switching and Security
  • Contribute to product launch planning and messaging frameworks
  • Feed field and customer intelligence into product roadmap discussions

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Support press releases, analyst briefings, and joint marketing with ecosystem and partners
  • Contribute to developer and ecosystem marketing, demand generation, and digital marketing orchestration for the Wireline vertical
  • Share insights on regulatory trends, standards evolution, and emerging technologies with internal stakeholders

The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences, trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.
$149.1K - $215.9K USD

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years in networking and/or security infrastructure, with hands on experience in routing, switching, or security appliance architectures
  • Working knowledge of ASIC/ASSP replacement and augmentation (I/O expansion, feature addition), traffic management, and hardware offload for CPU intensive security functions
  • Working knowledge of security and crypto standards such as MACsec, IPsec, AES-GCM, and post quantum cryptography
  • Familiarity with relevant IEEE Ethernet standards (e.g., 100GE, 400GE, 800GE)
  • Experience with FPGA based development for networking or security platforms
  • Experience with TAM/SAM analysis and business KPI tracking in a technology or semiconductor market
  • Demonstrated ability creating technical marketing content for technical and executive audiences
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to simplify complex concepts without losing accuracy
  • Experience engaging customers, partners, or industry forums in a technical marketing or field facing role
  • Comfortable operating cross functionally across Engineering, Product Planning, and Sales
  • Nice to have: working knowledge of OTN/Transmission (framing, FEC, DCI) and/or PON/Access (XGS-PON, NG-PON2, Cable/DOCSIS), useful for candidates who may grow into broader Wireline scope over time
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (advanced degree a plus)
