POSITION: Network Technician II
LOCATION: Metro Hartford Innovation Services (MHIS)
REPORTS TO: Network Operations Manager - Metro Hartford Information Services (MHIS)
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Perform maintenance, operations, configuration and installation of network equipment. Work with other members of the data team within the Network Operations division of MHIS to ensure reliable network service to our customers.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair network hardware, software, and cabling.
  • Conducting wireless site surveys, completing site analysis and installation of wireless equipment at our customer facilities.
  • Identify and troubleshoot wireless connectivity issues and software application errors.
  • Installation, maintenance and ongoing support of our wireless network platforms.
  • Work with members of the end-user community and MHIS staff to assist them in understanding and utilizing network services and resources
  • Work with MHIS Support Services division to resolve desktop PC and networking problems.
  • Work with City, Library, and School staff regarding telecommunication initiatives and procedures.
  • Maintain an orderly networking office and equipment storage area.
  • Traveling to customer sites.
  • Provide after-hours network support on a periodic on-call basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or designee.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associates' degree in Computer Science or related area or a minimum of 2 years' experience demonstrating ability in Local and Wide Area Networking configuration, wireless installation, and support as it relates to voice, video, and data communications.
  • Knowledge of lower level networking protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP).
  • Understanding diverse wireless network platforms and IP based phones.
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and handle changing priorities.
  • Ability to organize, manage time, and follow-through under pressure.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within difficult time constraints.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: CCNA desired or Equivalent
ALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-Month Work Year/Salary Grid C513 ($68,213-$82,156)
