Job description

Overview

Responsible for preparing and filing sales and use tax returns on a timely basis.  Responsible for researching and assisting the estimating, procurement, accounts payable and accounts receivable teams on sales, use, personal property tax, gross receipts tax, and other taxes as deemed necessary to ensure that bids contain all necessary tax information.  Examining accounts and records, ensuring exemption certification validity and applicability to transactions. Responsibilities also include staying current on tax law changes and changes in the business activities of the company.


Responsibilities
  • Research and analyze state sales and use, gross receipts and other tax regulations
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual sales and use tax returns and direct correcting entries as needed
  • Research state nexus issues and sales/use/gross receipts tax treatment of sales and purchases
  • File necessary reports to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (including foreign taxes)
  • Assist accounting with recording tax payments for ax filings
  • Assist estimators, procurement personnel, accounts payable personnel and accounts receivable personnel on national, state, and local tax issues
  • Assist in managing sales and use tax audits
  • Remain current on tax law changes and changes in the business activities of the company through research and training seminars
  • Assist Project Managers with questions related to taxes
  • Assist in special financial or tax projects as they arise
  • Various other accounting duties as assigned by management
  • Assist Project Managers and Administrative Staff with various information and inquiries
  • Assist in training accounts payable, procurement, and estimating teams on the applicable tax laws and regulations when entering a new taxing jurisdiction

Qualifications
  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the construction industry is a plus
  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion ERP system is a plus
  • Sales/Use Tax Experience is a plus
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organization skills along with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and professionalism
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with simultaneous deadlines and prioritize workload in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with multiple personalities at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to efficiently provide accurate data to Project Managers and estimators at a moment’s notice
  • Read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • Assist supervisors with preparation of reports, bids, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers
