Job description

Summary

This position supervises and coordinates the operations of the WIC program in accordance with federal and state grant guidelines and department operating procedures. This position is under the direct supervision of the Health Department Director and/or his/her designee.

Definition and Examples of Work

Provide leadership and hands-on assistance to WIC program and the Health Department in accordance with WIC, State, County, and Health Department policies and procedures.

  • Actively participate in Health Department Leadership Team in setting strategic direction and implementing effective management procedures.
  • Communicate with clients and medical providers at in-person appointments, through phone, email and translation services as needed.

Administer WIC program requirements

  • Plan, develop, direct, and evaluate WIC delivery systems and plan appropriate care and services for clients.
  • Assess income, residency, ID's, and immunization records as required by federal and state policy.
  • Assist with WIC applicants' requirement assessment and complete anthropometrics on clients as needed
  • Prepare and administer WIC grant budget and supervise procurement of supplies and disbursement of funds.
  • Submit monthly affidavits.
  • Oversee ordering of WIC medical and breastfeeding supplies and office supplies.
  • Create monthly KWIC reports per WIC policy and procedures.

Manage WIC employees and provide leadership

  • Oversee time, leave records, and requests.
  • Attend monthly and/or weekly staff meetings.
  • Assess need for and ensure continuing education for self and staff.
  • Recommend and implement technology and procedures for efficient delivery of services
  • Evaluate employee performance and ensure state statutes and county/office policies are followed; including the hiring, employee development, and pay adjustment.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Nurse Supervisor on evaluation and supervision of RNs, IBCLCs, and CLCs.
  • Define and monitor performance, productivity, and compliance of direct reports with departmental missions, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to ensure all work meets the required expectation.

Establish community connections (meetings, events, educational programs, etc.)

  • Consult and coordinate with other staff and health care providers and make appropriate referrals to local providers as needed.
  • Maintain community connections including Finney County Health Coalition, Breastfeeding Coalition of St. Catherine Hospital, and Finney County Dental Coalition.
  • Create and organize social media platforms for the WIC Clinic.
  • Participate in, organize, and coordinate community events.
  • Design promotional and marketing flyers for the WIC Clinic.

Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
