Collins Aerospace – Avionics has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Safety Engineer to lead safety engineering activities across complex Air Traffic Management (ATM) programs and products within the Connected Aviation Air Traffic Systems (ATS) Whole Life Engineering (WLE) organization. The Senior Safety Engineer will drive system safety planning, interface closely with design teams, and deliver safety‑related documentation and analyses across the full system lifecycle. This role requires a strong understanding of system safety, hazard assessment, and safety‑related standards to ensure Collins ATS solutions continue to advance safe, modernized Air Traffic Management capabilities.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform System Safety program activities, hazard analyses, and design analyses
  • Conduct hazard tracking and safety risk management
  • Collaborate across integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or develop effective controls
  • Develop safety‑related contract deliverables and internal safety documentation
  • Serve as a Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guide program and product leadership
  • Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and applicable military/industry standards
  • Review requirement and design changes, test plans, and verification artifacts to ensure safety considerations are incorporated

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Experience with software, hardware, and personnel safety
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with Air Traffic Management (ATM)
  • Experience developing and implementing MIL‑STD‑882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses
  • Experience with DO‑278 design assurance guidance
  • Experience with technical risk management
  • Qualified Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist/RTX CORE apprentice or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks associated with other Whole Life Engineering (WLE) disciplines

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
