What are Whiteheads and what causes them?

Whiteheads are a type of acne lesion that appears as small, white or flesh-colored bumps on the skin. They occur when dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria become trapped within a hair follicle, leading to a clogged pore. Unlike blackheads, whiteheads remain closed at the surface, which is why they appear white. Factors such as hormonal changes, excess oil production, and certain skincare products can increase the likelihood of developing whiteheads.
