Job description

NewsNation is looking for a Segment Producer to join the team for its weekend morning program. This role involves contributing story ideas, compiling elements, and crafting engaging live segments and packages based on a wide range of topics ranging from political news to domestic news to international news. The Segment Producer collaborates closely with the Executive Producer, Senior Producers, and Line Producers to ensure accurate and compelling broadcasts. The position is based at the network's offices in New York.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Pitch stories and segment ideas regularly
  • Research topics using the Internet, video archives, and other information sources.
  • Select strongest possible elements to help best tell stories.
  • Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show and interview segments or packages.
  • Assist in preparing and executing live, compelling television newscasts.
  • Keep Executive Producer and Senior Producer apprised of developments of stories.
  • Assist in the control room if needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Producer and Senior Producer or network leadership.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Experience producing for a national news program or producing newscasts in a top 10 market
  • Experience covering politics and government
  • Strong news judgement
  • Quick decision maker and creative thinker
  • Effective coach and mentor to staff of all experience levels
  • Collaborative team player who advocates for their show but find ways to elevate network reporting
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to adapt to change, meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency with ENPS
  • Flexibility to work different shifts

Salary Range: $75,000 to 90,000 (per experience)
