What is a weekend technician?

Weekend technicians are professionals who work primarily on weekends to maintain, repair, or support technical equipment and systems. Their responsibilities vary by industry but often include troubleshooting equipment issues, performing routine maintenance, and responding to urgent technical needs. These roles help ensure that operations run smoothly outside of regular business hours when weekday staff may not be available. Weekend technicians may work in fields such as IT, automotive, healthcare, or manufacturing, depending on the organization's needs.

What are the typical responsibilities and work schedule for a weekend technician?

As a Weekend Technician, your primary responsibilities may include performing maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of equipment or systems during weekend shifts. You'll often work independently or as part of a small team, ensuring smooth operations while regular weekday staff are off-duty. The weekend schedule typically involves longer shifts on Saturdays and Sundays, sometimes with the option for overtime. This role requires adaptability, strong problem-solving skills, and clear communication with both on-site and remote teams to address any urgent issues that arise outside of standard business hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Technician, you need hands-on technical expertise in maintenance or repair, relevant vocational training or certification, and basic troubleshooting skills. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, equipment-specific software, and safety protocols is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you respond quickly and work independently during weekend shifts. These skills ensure timely, reliable service and minimal downtime when regular staff may be unavailable.

Ready to Be the Technician Others Turn To?

If you enjoy solving tough diagnostic and electrical problems while helping other technicians when they're stuck, this could be your next step.

You'll earn hourly pay instead of flat rate, work Monday–Friday with no weekends, and receive 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage.

We're looking for an experienced A-Level Technician—or strong B-Level Technician—ready to step into a lead/top-tech role while staying hands-on with diagnostics and repairs.

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose complex drivability, electrical, and mechanical concerns
  • Read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVI)
  • Perform advanced repairs, including engine and transmission swaps as needed
  • Help less-experienced technicians with difficult diagnostics
  • Provide occasional Service Advisor backup when needed

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of professional automotive repair experience required
  • A-Level experience preferred; strong B-Level Technicians considered
  • Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to independently solve difficult vehicle concerns
  • ASE Certifications preferred but not required
  • Lead-tech or mentoring experience is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Up to $39/hour — hourly, not flat rate
  • $70,000–$95,000 annual earning potential
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • SIMPLE IRA with approximately 3% employer match
  • Paid Time Off / sick time
  • Six paid holidays
  • Uniforms provided
  • ASE reimbursement
  • In-house technical training
  • Relocation assistance may be considered

Why This Role

  • Monday–Friday with no weekends
  • Hourly pay without flat-rate pressure
  • Lead/top technician opportunity
  • Challenging diagnostic and electrical work
  • Primarily Asian and Domestic vehicles
  • Team environment where technicians help each other
  • Opportunity to mentor less-experienced technicians

If you're ready to stay hands-on while becoming the technician others turn to for the tough problems, we'd like to hear from you.
