Job description

Title: EMS Dispatcher

Location: Massena, NY

Hours Per Week: 40 scheduled weekly hours

Schedule: 12 hour evening/ night shift, 6p-6a, weekend rotation

Position Summary:
The EMS Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating patient transport within SLH and St. Lawrence County. Collaborate with St. Lawrence Health leadership, physicians, nurses, etc. to ensure the EMS system is supporting overall patient flow along the continuum of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate patient transportation
Communicate with healthcare partners.
Ensure timely completion and accuracy of paperwork.
Data entry into charting program.
Maintain a list of transport requests
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities/ Essential Job Functions:
Remain calm in high-stress situations
Coordination of assets to transfer patients in a timely fashion
Data entry
Basic understanding of computers
Ability to communicate effectively.
CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical:

  • Able to sit or stand and work at a computer keyboard.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

  • Occasional stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and carrying up to 125 pounds, (250 pounds with assistance).

  • Close visual acuity viewing a computer screen.

  • Work with equipment and manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc.

Environmental:

  • OSHA Category I: High risk of exposure to blood/body fluids in the day to day job duties.

  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (heat or cold)

  • Regular and on-time attendance.

  • Hours 40 hours per week.

  • Individual may be required to work non-standard shifts as needed (weekend, evenings, swing shift, or some combination).

  • Occasional travel by conventional means to other locations as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent


Required Licensure/Certification:

  • BLS required at hire, If not AHA, must obtain AHA BLS within 3 months of hire.

  • Valid Driver's License

Desired Attributes:

  • NYS EMT Certification preferred

  • healthcare billing and/ or coding

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
