Primary Responsibilities
St. Lawrence University is currently seeking applicants for a Graduate Assistant Program Coordinator for the Center for the Environment. This 20 hour/week, 10-month position (August 1- May 31) with the potential for renewal for a second year, is targeted toward graduate students seeking a Master of Arts in Leadership Degree. Remuneration includes a competitive stipend, student health insurance, and tuition remission (6 graduate classes per year in the University's graduate program). Application for the graduate program can be done concurrently with application for this position.
The Center for the Environment (CFE) empowers future interdisciplinary leaders to develop the skills necessary-through a liberal arts education, advocacy, and action-to be changemakers and environmental stewards in their communities, the nation, and the world. The CFE is a hub to better connect, advance, market and celebrate existing environmental and sustainability initiatives at St. Lawrence University. The CFE provides experiential, skills-based, leadership and career-focused opportunities for students that are related to environmental stewardship and leadership and includes work to make the campus more sustainable, environmentally friendly and resilient to climate change while working towards carbon neutrality. The CFE also works to expand and enhance connections to the communities in which we live, learn, work, and serve.
Position responsibilities include the following:
  • Work with the CFE Executive Director (ED) on environmental and sustainability initiatives on campus.
  • Collaborate with the ED to supervise and mentor CFE student communication interns, environmental leadership fellows on projects, and other students who interact with the CFE.
  • Assist with data collection for AASHE STARS and the Carnegie Elective Classification for Sustainability, and the campus greenhouse inventory and energy efficiency projects. Help to communicate this information to the Campus Committee on Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality and to other campus stakeholders.
  • Administrative duties including planning and marketing CFE events, and communications such as website updates, periodic newsletters and podcasts.
  • Represent CFE at tabling events on campus and for community organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the Center for the Environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Holds B.A. or B.S. in an environmentally related discipline, such as environmental science or studies, sustainability, ecology, conservation biology, etc.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • A willingness to work with and supervise students to accomplish CFE projects.
  • Apply and be accepted in the graduate program at St. Lawrence University.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with social media and/or digital storytelling (podcasts, websites, vlogging, etc.)
  • Experience working in teams.

Salary
$20/hour plus Tuition Remission (6 graduate classes per year in the University's graduate program)
