What is a weekend roofer?

Weekend roofers are roofing professionals who primarily work on weekends, often to accommodate homeowners' schedules or to complete jobs outside of standard working hours. They perform typical roofing tasks such as installing, repairing, and maintaining roofs on residential or commercial buildings. This role may appeal to part-time workers, those seeking supplemental income, or individuals with other weekday commitments. Weekend roofers must possess the same skills and certifications as full-time roofers and adhere to all safety standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend roofer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Roofer, you need solid physical stamina, basic carpentry skills, and familiarity with roofing materials and safety practices, often backed by a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of roofing tools, ladders, nail guns, and the use of safety harnesses is typically required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and reliability are crucial soft skills for ensuring quality work and maintaining job site safety. These abilities are essential for delivering durable roofing results efficiently while minimizing risks in a physically demanding environment.

What are some common challenges a weekend roofer might face, and how can they be addressed?

Weekend Roofers often work with tight deadlines, as projects need to be completed within a short timeframe. Weather conditions can also be unpredictable, impacting both safety and productivity. To address these challenges, effective planning and clear communication with clients and team members are essential. Additionally, staying updated on safety protocols and using appropriate protective equipment helps ensure safe and efficient work.

Job description

Experienced Roofer – Learn Slate & CopperAbout Durable Slate

Durable Slate is an award-winning roofing contractor specializing in slate, copper, and clay-tile roofing. Since 1986, we've built our reputation on exceptional craftsmanship, safety, and quality work.

We're looking for experienced roofers to join our team. If you already know roofing and take pride in doing the job right, we'll teach you the specialized skills needed to work with slate, copper, and other traditional roofing materials.

You don't need to be a slate or historic roofer to join us. We want good roofers who are ready to learn a specialized trade.

What You'll Do
  • Install/repair slate, clay tile, copper, and EPDM roofs
  • Learn specialized slate and copper roofing techniques through paid training
  • Maintain clean, safe, and professional job sites
  • Work with an experienced team to deliver high-quality craftsmanship
  • Travel to projects as needed, with paid travel time and travel support provided
What You'll Bring
  • 1+ years of roofing experience
  • Experience with any type of roofing is welcome
  • General knowledge of roofing installation, repair, and flashing
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and at heights using ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and other equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Reliable work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Pride in your work and attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

Slate, copper, or historic roofing experience is a plus—but not required. We'll train the right roofer.

Compensation
  • $23–$45+/hr. based on experience and skill
  • Performance-based pay increases and advancement opportunities
  • Overtime available as weather and project schedules allow
What We Offer
  • Paid in-house and on-the-job training
  • Training in advanced slate, copper, and sheet metal techniques
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance after 90 days — employer pays 50%
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Quarterly bonuses
  • Paid travel time
  • Travel logistics and support for multi-site projects
  • Opportunities for advancement based on performance, not tenure
Build on the Skills You Already Have

If you're an experienced roofer looking for an opportunity to learn a specialized trade without starting over, we'd like to hear from you.

Bring your roofing experience. We'll help you build the skills to become a slate and copper roofing specialist.

Apply today and build a career preserving historic roofs that matter. https://www.durableslate.com/
