Job description

Registered Nurse Job Summary:

The registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients’ health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. The RN is responsible to the Department Head. The Registered nurse provides holistic care for each patient coming into our facility including tasks like creating and maintaining accurate patient records, administering medication and monitoring for side effects, recording vital signs, and identifying/reporting symptoms and changes in patient conditions. The RN maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family, and client facility staff. Registered nurse provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights. A professional, friendly attitude and effective communication skills are keys to becoming successful in this role.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·       Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

·       Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

·       Assess the acuity of care required by patient and develop staffing plan for shift based on patient acuity, patient census and available staff.

·       Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems. 

·       Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities.

·       Work collaboratively with nursing and ancillary staff to solve problems in a fair, consistent manner.

·       Provide support, guidance, and feedback to staff.

·       Identify and communicate staff needs for continuing education to the Education Director.

·       Assist staff to interpret change in a positive manner.

·       Assist staff to provide a safe work environment for patient care.

·       Assist in the preparation and implementation of the annual goals for the department.

·       Keep professionally current, by attending continuing education programs, seminars, workshops, Supervisor Conference Group Meetings, and/or independent research reading.

·       Performs other related duties as assigned.

Registered Nurse Responsibilities:

·       Complete annual skills check list.

·       Attend annual skills day.

·       Maintaining accurate, complete health care records and reports.

·       Administering medications to patients and monitoring them for side effects and reactions.

·       Recording patient vital signs and medical information.

·       Ordering medical diagnostic and clinical tests per MD order.

·       Monitoring, reporting, and recording symptoms or changes in patient conditions.

·       Assessing, implementing, planning, or evaluating patient nursing care plans by working with healthcare team members.

·       Modifying patient health treatment plans as indicated by patient conditions and responses.

·       Observing and interpreting patient’s symptoms and communicating them to physicians.

·       Collaborating with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.

·       Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to physicians.

·       Perform routine procedures (blood pressure measurements, administering injections etc.) and file in patients’ chart.

·       Adjust and administer patient’s medication and provide treatments according to physician’s orders.

·       Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces)

·       Provide instant medical care in emergencies.

·       Guide LPNs and nursing assistants in assignments.

·       Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families.

·       Expand knowledge and capabilities by attending educational workshops, conferences etc.

·       Identify patients’ care requirements, focus on their needs and act on them.

·       Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.

·       Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.

·       Resolve or report on patients’ needs or problems.

·       Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine diagnostic checks (monitor pulse, blood pressure and temperature, provide drugs and injections etc.)

Monitor and record patient’s condition and document provided care services.

·       Administer workloads.

·       Follow care regulations and standards.

·       Work within and cooperate with a multidisciplinary team.

·       Report patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift change.

·       Maintain current competency in nursing specialty by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies.

·       Assess patients’ pain levels and sedation requirements.

·       Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.

·       Assess family adaption levels and coping skills to determine whether intervention is needed.

·       Acting as a patient advocate.

·       Providing education and support to patient families.

·       Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures.

·       Respects cultural and religious practices of patients.

·       Upholds HIPAA regulations.

Education, Certifications, and Licensing:

·       Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree in nursing.

·       Pass the National Council Licensure Examination or NCLEX-RN.

·       Current state licensure as a registered nurse.

·       American Heart Association BLS/CPR/ACLS/CPI certification.

·       Continuing Education.

Physical Requirements:

·       Must be able to help a patient move from one bed to another or walk to the bathroom, turn patient (side to side) using safe lifting techniques to protect the patient from injury.

·       Must also be able to bend over to grab items off the floor or connect medical equipment.

·       Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

·       Must be able to see and hear well in order to adequately monitor patients.

·       Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time, as well as lift patients and medical equipment.

Ability to demonstrate resilience in emotionally difficult situations.

Safety Practices:

·       Consistently follows all established Safety procedures, incident/accident protocol and precautions or universal precautions when performing duties relating to work area.
