Job description

SUMMARY

The Leadman Insulator is responsible for leading and coordinating a crew of insulation craftsmen engaged in the installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of thermal and acoustic insulation systems in refinery, petrochemical, LNG, power generation, and other oil and gas facilities. The Leadman serves as the primary point of contact between field supervision and craft personnel, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, direct, and coordinate daily activities of insulation crews on assigned projects.
  • Plan and organize work assignments to ensure efficient utilization of manpower, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Read and interpret isometric drawings, blueprints, specifications, insulation schedules, and work packages.
  • Install, remove, repair, and maintain thermal and acoustic insulation systems on piping, vessels, tanks, exchangers, boilers, and related equipment.
  • Measure, cut, fit, and install various insulation materials including fiberglass, mineral wool, calcium silicate, perlite, and ceramic fiber.
  • Fabricate and install metal jacketing, lagging, flashing, and weatherproofing systems using hand and power tools.
  • Coordinate material requirements and verify proper material usage in accordance with project specifications.
  • Conduct quality inspections to ensure workmanship meets company and client standards.
  • Monitor crew productivity and ensure work is completed according to project schedules.
  • Train, mentor, and assist insulators in proper installation techniques, safety practices, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in pre-job planning, toolbox meetings, and safety discussions.
  • Communicate project progress, manpower needs, and work issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor, production, and completed work activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, site-specific procedures, and environmental requirements.
  • Perform hands-on insulation work as required while supervising assigned personnel.
  • Assist with outage, turnaround, maintenance, and capital project activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Extensive knowledge of industrial insulation materials, systems, and installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and insulation standards.
  • Strong leadership and crew coordination skills.
  • Ability to estimate material quantities and manpower requirements.
  • Knowledge of refinery, petrochemical, LNG, and industrial maintenance operations.
  • Ability to identify and resolve installation issues in the field.
  • Proficient in the use of insulation tools, fabrication equipment, and measuring devices.
  • Ability to work safely in high-hazard industrial environments.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and turnaround schedules as required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial insulation experience required.
  • Previous leadman, foreman, or crew leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working in oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, LNG, power generation, or industrial construction environments required.
  • Knowledge of insulation specifications, metal fabrication, and industrial safety procedures.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NCCER, or equivalent craft certifications preferred.
  • TWIC card may be required depending on project location.
