Job description

Job Description – add details here

We are looking for a hands-on Power BI Developer to own and evolve our Power BI reporting environment, which sits on top of Microsoft Dynamics. This role is highly collaborative, requiring someone who can sit directly with business stakeholders, understand their reporting needs, review and rationalize existing reports, and build custom, production-grade Power BI solutions from the ground up. This is not a hand-off role — the ideal candidate writes their own DAX, builds their own data models, and designs their own visuals, while also being a confident communicator who can translate business requirements into technical solutions and explain technical trade-offs back to non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner directly with business stakeholders to gather, clarify, and prioritize reporting requirements — running working sessions rather than relying solely on written specs.
  • Audit and assess the existing Power BI report portfolio to identify redundancies, performance issues, data quality gaps, and opportunities for consolidation or improvement.
  • Design, build, and maintain custom Power BI reports and dashboards sourced from Microsoft Dynamics (e.g., Dynamics 365 CE/F&O) and related data sources.
  • Develop and optimize data models, DAX measures, calculated columns, and Power Query (M) transformations for performance and maintainability.
  • Own the end-to-end report lifecycle: requirements, data modeling, visualization design, testing, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Establish and enforce report design standards, naming conventions, and governance practices across the Power BI environment.
  • Manage Power BI Service administration tasks including workspace organization, dataset refresh scheduling, row-level security (RLS), and gateway configuration for Dynamics data sources.
  • Troubleshoot data discrepancies, refresh failures, and performance bottlenecks, working closely with Dynamics functional/technical teams as needed.
  • Provide training, documentation, and ongoing support to business users to promote self-service reporting adoption.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and business audiences.
Required Skills/Experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience, including report/dashboard design, data modeling, and DAX.
  • Proven experience building Power BI reports on top of Microsoft Dynamics (365 CE, F&O, or Business Central) data sources.
  • Strong command of DAX, Power Query (M), and Power BI data modeling best practices (star schema, relationships, aggregations).
  • Experience with Power BI Service administration — workspaces, gateways, scheduled refresh, RLS, and deployment pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases; ability to write and troubleshoot queries independently.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret business processes and translate them into meaningful reporting solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable leading requirement-gathering sessions directly with business users and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to review, critique, and improve existing reports rather than only building net-new ones.
  • Strong ownership mentality — able to work independently with minimal hand-holding while keeping stakeholders informed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Dynamics data export options such as Dataverse, Azure Synapse Link, or Data Export Service.
  • Familiarity with Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL) supporting Power BI on Dynamics.
  • Experience with Power BI Premium capacity management and deployment pipelines.
  • Microsoft certifications such as PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) or Dynamics-related credentials.
  • Experience in a consulting or client-facing services environment.
