Job Summary:
The Weekend Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for managing and overseeing the provision of pharmacy services during weekend shifts, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant medication distribution. The weekend supervisor will assist in managing pharmacy staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, troubleshooting technology issues, and promoting medication safety. The supervisor will work closely with pharmacy managers and director to address operational challenges and enhance pharmacy services.
Additionally, the role involves promoting medication safety by reviewing medication errors and adverse drug events, as well as supporting the education and training of staff.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee pharmacy operations during weekend shifts, including clinical, operational, and distribution services.
- Ensure that all work performed by pharmacy staff complies with state and federal regulations, as well as hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Establish work assignments for the weekend shift and allocate staff as needed to ensure adequate coverage, including managing sick calls.
- Act as the primary point of contact for pharmacy staff during the weekend, resolving operational or staffing issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve pharmacy technology application issues during weekend operations, including automation and information systems.
- Assist pharmacy managers and directors in assessing and resolving pharmacy operational challenges.
- Serve as a pharmacy medication safety officer by reviewing and reporting medication errors and adverse drug events, contributing to the continuous improvement of medication safety protocols and operational efficiencies.
- Support ongoing staff training and education.
- Assist with the review and revision of the pharmacy policy and procedures.
- Assist in managing pharmacy information systems, supporting technology-related updates, and troubleshooting as needed.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacy leadership, staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and quality pharmacy services during weekend hours.
Requirements:
- PharmD degree required/ PGY1 Preferred
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field strongly preferred.
- Active New York State pharmacist licensure.
- 3+ years of inpatient hospital experience required.
- Previous experience in pharmacy management or supervisory roles preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy automation and information systems.
