Job description

Description:

Payroll and HRIS Specialist
Location: Plymouth, MA

About the Role
The Payroll and HRIS Specialist serves as a frontline operator and problem-solver for Brabo’s client base, owning the day-to-day execution of payroll and HRIS functions within the Paylocity platform. This role is not just transactional—it is client-facing, fast-paced, and requires strong judgment, adaptability, and accountability.
You will support a diverse portfolio of clients across industries including healthcare, hospitality, construction, nonprofits, and professional services. Success in this role means balancing high-volume, deadline-driven payroll processing with real-time client support and system optimization.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a service environment, is highly tech-savvy, and wants to grow into advanced HRIS, implementation, or HR Business Partner work over time.

About Brabo
Brabo is a payroll, benefits, and HR consulting firm headquartered in Plymouth, MA, supporting small to mid-sized businesses across the U.S. We help our clients scale by combining technology, structure, and human support.

We operate in a high-accountability, high-growth environment and live by our core values:
Quality. Partnership. Communication. Accountability. Growth.

Our team is collaborative, fast-moving, and solution-oriented. We are building a group of professionals who can operate independently, think critically, and deliver results in a client-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Execution & Ownership

  • Process and submit weekly, biweekly, and off-cycle payrolls with accuracy and timeliness
  • Own payroll deadlines across multiple clients, ensuring compliance and consistency
  • Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, tax issues, and funding concerns proactively
  • Support final pay calculations, PTO payouts, and earnings adjustments

Client Support & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients via Salesforce, Slack, and email
  • Manage a high volume of client inquiries with professionalism, urgency, and clarity
  • Build strong working relationships with clients by providing reliable, solution-focused support
  • Translate technical system functionality into practical guidance for clients

Payroll Platform Expertise

  • Act as a functional expert across Paylocity modules, including:
  • Payroll & Tax
  • Time & Attendance
  • Onboarding & ATS
  • Benefits & Open Enrollment
  • Performance & LMS
  • Expense Management
  • Communities & Employee Engagement tools
  • Configure and troubleshoot system setup (earnings, deductions, PTO, workflows, etc.)
  • Support reporting needs using Custom Report Writer and dashboards
  • Assist with integrations (401k, GL, benefits carriers, etc.)

Compliance & Issue Resolution

  • Partner with agencies and vendors to resolve tax notices and discrepancies
  • Ensure payroll and HR processes align with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Support clients with audits, reporting, and compliance-related inquiries

Operations & Process Improvement

  • Adapt daily priorities to balance recurring payroll deadlines with ad hoc client needs
  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements
  • Participate in internal training, 1:1s, and team collaboration
  • Contribute to documentation, SOPs, and knowledge-sharing across the team
  • Support implementations or special projects as needed

What Success Looks Like
Payrolls are processed accurately, on time, and with minimal rework
Clients feel supported, informed, and confident in the platform
You can manage multiple clients and competing priorities independently
You proactively identify issues and bring solutions—not just problems

  • You grow into a trusted resource internally and externally

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in payroll, HRIS, or client service environment
  • Hands-on experience with Paylocity (or similar HRIS/payroll platform required)
  • Strong technical aptitude and comfort navigating multiple systems simultaneously
  • Experience managing client relationships or high-volume service requests
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and adapt quickly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel strongly preferred)

Preferred:

  • FPC or CPP certification (or working toward certification)
  • Experience with integrations, reporting, or system configuration

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule (in-office Tues–Thurs; remote Mon/Fri)
  • High-volume, deadline-driven environment (especially mid-week payroll cycles)
  • Collaborative team with strong expectations around accountability and communication

Why This Role at Brabo
This is not a siloed payroll role. You will gain exposure to:

  • Multiple industries and client scenarios
  • Full-suite HRIS functionality within Paylocity
  • Real-time problem-solving and consulting
  • A clear growth path into HRIS, implementation, or HRBP roles
Requirements:
