Description

Under general supervision, serves as an ambassador for the Parks Department, in city parks; provides excellent customer service and assists park visitors by providing information and enforcing park rules; patrols city parks, buildings, and facilities and reports any and all incidents, vandalism, storm damage, etc. to supervisors. Responds to park related emergencies and inquiries to protect lives and property (e.g., regulate traffic, assist and educate the public). Informs citizens of rules and regulations related to city parks. Performs other duties as assigned.


Illustrative Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service interactions to park visitors.
  • Conducts routine patrols of all city parks and facilities.
  • Provides assistance with traffic control measures in parks for permitted and park events.
  • Monitors traffic conditions and flow in city parks and around city park facilities.
  • Opens and secures parks, buildings and city facilities as scheduled and/or upon the completion of scheduled events,meetings, or activities.
  • Performs facility inspections of park facilities.
  • Performs light janitorial duties to include cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, restocking soaps and toiletries, sweeping,and mopping, removing trash and replacing liners, as needed.
  • Maintains visibility to establish a security presence.
  • Informs visitors of parking regulations and issues citations, if necessary, at all city park properties for non-compliance.
  • Settles or calms interpersonal disputes.
  • Works closely with law enforcement officers.
  • Records daily activities in the log and reports irregularities and problems to the supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Must be at least Eighteen (18) years of age; possess a minimum educational requirement of a high school diploma or its equivalent. Individuals must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language; must have a valid driver's license, must be current on auto insurance coverage, and have a good driving record. Must be able to work weekend, evening, and holiday hours, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrates the following: knowledge of department policies and procedures; knowledge of safety practices and procedures, and public relations; Knowledge of traffic control procedures; the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form; the ability to recognize unusual, emergency, or threatening situations and take appropriate action; the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.

Physical Requirements:

Lift 40 pounds and assist in transporting items or other supplies.

Ability to withstand extreme cold and heat for long hours, and ability to work during inclement weather conditions.
