Job description

Background

2Life Communities has been at the heart of positive change in the affordable senior housing ecosystem since 1965. We develop, manage, and advocate for high-quality, affordable housing and services that support aging in community, helping older adults and their families enjoy stability, dignity, and peace of mind. Our mission is to ensure that every older adult has the opportunity to live a full life of connection and purpose in a dynamic, supportive environment.

Position summary

The sales counselor is responsible for driving occupancy and revenue across 2Life’s direct rental portfolio by cultivating strong relationships with prospective residents and guiding them through a thoughtful, trust-based decision-making process.

2Life has direct rental apartments in three properties: Shillman House (Framingham), Golda Meir House (Newton), and Brown Family House (Brookline). While this role supports leasing across all three properties, the majority of this position’s time will be dedicated to Shillman House, with additional support provided to other communities as needed.

Given the cyclical nature of sales activity, this role will also contribute to broader community engagement and operational support activities at Shillman House during periods of lower leasing volume. This may include supporting resident engagement, administrative coordination, and other site-based initiatives aligned with organizational needs.

Essential job functions

Sales execution and conversion

  • Maintain high occupancy and optimize revenue-producing days across 2Life’s direct rental portfolio, with primary focus on Shillman House.

  • Conduct apartment tours and effectively present the value of 2Life communities to prospective residents and their families.

  • Guide prospective residents through a consultative, relationship-based sales process, building trust and supporting decision-making over a potentially long sales cycle.

  • Respond promptly and consistently to all leads (walk-ins, phone, web, and event-generated) and ensure timely follow-up.

  • Effectively communicate pricing, availability, and overall value proposition to support strong conversion outcomes.

  • Maintain flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate prospective resident schedules, including tours, events, and meetings.

  • Working closely with the Property Marketing Director, provide support of marketing outreach events, such as open houses, senior resource fairs, and resident meet-and-greet events.

Pipeline and relationship management

  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects to support timely filling of anticipated vacancies.

  • Cultivate relationships with waitlist members, referral sources, residents, and community partners to generate ongoing demand.

  • Maintain consistent, proactive communication with prospects throughout the sales cycle.

  • Leverage resident relationships and community engagement opportunities to drive referrals and support leasing efforts.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations, senior centers, faith communities, alumni groups, and other community partners to support outreach and lead generation efforts.

Collaboration and insights

  • Partner with the Property Marketing Director, Opus Communities sales and marketing team, and the broader marketing and communications team to align on lead generation, messaging, outreach strategies, and overall sales performance.

  • Participate in collaborative sales and marketing efforts across 2Life and Opus Communities to support shared learning, coordinated outreach, and overall organizational goals.

  • Share insights on prospective residents, market trends, and competitive dynamics to inform marketing and operational decisions.

Operational execution

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in Salesforce CRM, ensuring visibility into the sales pipeline and performance.

  • Coordinate with site staff to support a smooth, well-managed move-in experience for new residents.

  • Represent 2Life at events, presentations, and outreach opportunities to support lead generation, community education, and brand awareness.

Other duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain and nurture relationships with current residents to support referrals and community-based lead generation.

  • Maintain familiarity with all 2Life housing options and effectively cross-market communities based on prospective resident needs.

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of all prospect and resident information.

  • Provide occasional sales support across other 2Life communities, including Golda Meir House and Brown Family House, as needed.

  • Maintain working knowledge of Opus Communities (2Life’s middle-market community) and provide backup sales support as needed.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the Shillman House community by supporting site-based initiatives and operations during periods of lower leasing activity.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preparation, knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • 5+ years of experience in sales, leasing, senior living, or a related customer-facing role with a consultative sales approach.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and guide individuals through complex, and often emotional, decision-making processes.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect effectively with older adults, families, and professional referral sources.

  • Proven ability to manage a sales pipeline, prioritize leads, and consistently follow up to drive results.

  • Comfort working with data and tracking performance metrics; experience using CRM systems (Salesforce preferred).

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, including marketing, operations, and site staff.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple prospects and priorities simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and adapt to changing priorities and business needs.

  • Commitment to 2Life’s mission and ability to clearly communicate the organization’s unique value proposition to prospective residents.

  • Experience in senior housing, healthcare, hospitality, or mission-driven organizations preferred.

  • Experience working with older adults and their families preferred.

Supervisory responsibility

At present, this position will not have management responsibility.

Working conditions / physical demands

  • This is an in-person role based at Shillman House in Framingham, with regular travel to other 2Life properties as well as community events, meetings, and outreach activities.

  • Working conditions are those to be expected of a standard, computer-based office environment, combined with frequent interaction with residents, prospective residents, and families.

  • Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the community, including conducting apartment tours and attending events.

  • Occasional lifting of light materials (e.g., marketing materials, event supplies).

  • Periodic off-hours work will be required, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate prospective resident schedules and events.
