Job Overview

The Operations Manager plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, product quality, production efficiency, and the safety of personnel. The Operations Manager supervises cross-functional departments including Production, Maintenance, Purchasing, and other shop-floor-related functions to drive performance, continuous improvement, and alignment with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance Management

  • Lead and manage the Maintenance Department, including staff, resources, and maintenance activities.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs to ensure minimal downtime and maximum equipment reliability.

  • Conduct quality checks on maintenance work to ensure compliance with internal standards and timeliness.

  • Plan and coordinate equipment installations, upgrades, and decommissioning in collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing teams.

  • Maintain spare parts inventory to support uninterrupted operations.

  1. Production Oversight

  • Plan, schedule, and monitor daily production runs to meet delivery timelines and customer demands.

  • Drive productivity improvements while ensuring adherence to product quality standards.

  • Ensure optimal operation of all manufacturing processes, tools, and machinery.

  • Support root cause analysis and coordinate troubleshooting efforts across Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.

  • Maintain detailed production reports and records, tracking machine/tooling usage and downtime.

  1. Quality and Safety

  • Enforce safe work practices and compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards across departments.

  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure production processes meet or exceed product quality requirements.

  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability among production personnel.

  1. Team Leadership and Development

  • Mentor and coach Team Leaders and supervisors to foster leadership growth and team engagement.

  • Support hiring, training, and development of production and maintenance staff.

  • Lead performance management and annual performance review processes.

  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset using Lean, 5S, or Six Sigma tools.

  1. Inventory and Materials Coordination

  • Collaborate with Purchasing to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and production supplies.

  • Monitor raw material levels and production usage to maintain inventory accuracy and avoid shortages.

  • Track and follow up on orders to ensure schedule alignment and minimal disruption.

  1. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between Operations and departments such as Engineering, Quality, HR, and Finance.

  • Participate in planning meetings, audits, and company-wide initiatives.

  • Contribute to budgeting and capital expenditure planning.

  1. Other Duties

  • Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance records and compliance reports.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by senior leadership.

Specific Skill Set

Communication

Clear, persuasive verbal and written communication across all levels of the organization; ability to lead productive meetings and issue resolution.

Presentation

Skilled in creating and delivering professional presentations, dashboards, and executive summaries using tools such as PowerPoint and Excel.

System

Strong understanding of manufacturing systems and interdependencies; experience with ERP/MES systems and process mapping.

Analytics

Proven ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and make strategic decisions based on operational insights; proficiency in data analysis tools.

Exposure

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (MBA or master’s is a plus).

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement principles.

  • Experience using ERP and manufacturing systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, or equivalent).

  • Strong Excel skills; familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is an advantage.
