Job description

Join Our Team of Compassionate Caregivers & CNAs in an ON-CALL CAREGIVER Position

Application Note:
Please note that this is a specialized On-Call Caregiver posting and is not tied to a specific client or guaranteed shift work. The Next Chapter maintains an active on-call pool to ensure we can quickly and reliably respond to urgent needs and start-of-service client care. This role is ideal for caregivers who enjoy flexibility, can commit to a consistent on-call schedule, and are open to client work when available. While on-call hours are guaranteed and compensated, optional additional client shifts may be offered as needs arise.

About The Next Chapter Senior Care Solutions:
We are a local, family-owned business dedicated to providing high-quality, non-medical care that makes a significant difference in the lives of our clients. We invest in our caregivers by offering essential resources, unwavering support, and opportunities for professional growth. At The Next Chapter, we value respect, trust, and community impact—and we invite you to be part of our mission-driven team.

Position Summary - On-Call Caregiver:
We are seeking dependable and responsive caregivers to join our on-call team. This role ensures clients receive uninterrupted care in urgent or last-minute situations. Caregivers will commit to a rotating on-call schedule and must be prepared to respond to assignments within a one-hour window. When not actively covering a client shift, caregivers receive $2/hour for on-call standby, and if called in to work, will automatically earn time-and-a-half based on their base pay ($18–$20/hr). On-call caregivers may also choose to be considered for regularly scheduled client shifts available through our agency if desired, but we are open to those taking this on-call position as a second job as well.

Caregiver Responsibilities:
If called in during an on-call shift, you may be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Daily Living Support: Assist clients with essential activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, and mobility support.
  • Specialized High-Acuity Care: Provide advanced assistance for clients with higher care needs, including the use of mobility equipment (e.g., hoyer lifts) and care for bed-bound individuals. Support clients with memory-related challenges, including those with dementia or Alzheimer’s, ensuring they receive compassionate and specialized attention.
  • Companionship & Engagement: Offer companionship, facilitate social interactions, and provide mental stimulation to improve clients' overall well-being.
  • Housekeeping & Meal Preparation: Perform light housekeeping tasks and prepare meals to maintain a clean and comfortable living environment.
  • Medication & Routine Assistance: Provide medication reminders, support daily routines, and monitor any changes in clients' conditions.
  • Errands & Transportation: Assist with transportation, run errands, and support clients in maintaining their independence and active lifestyle.
  • Safety & Supervision: Ensure client safety by adhering to individualized care plans and providing personalized supervision tailored to each client’s needs.

On-Call Scheduling & Requirements (please review closely, as our application will ask you to list which schedule you are available for):

    • Set On-Call Schedule Includes:

      • Person A: Mondays & Tuesdays, day shift 6AM–6PM

      • Person B: Mondays & Tuesdays, night shift 6PM–6AM

      • Person C: Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays, day shift 6AM–6PM

      • Person D: Wednesdays & Thursdays, night shift 6PM–6AM

      • In addition to weekday coverage, all on-call caregivers will participate in a rotating weekend on-call schedule covering Fridays starting at 6PM through Mondays at 6AM. Rotating weekend coverage is required as part of the role. The rotation will be balanced among the on-call team and may vary based on staffing levels—typically alternating but subject to adjustment as the company grows and/or weekend needs expand.
    • Response Time: Must be reachable and prepared to begin a shift within 60 minutes if called.

    • Location Flexibility: Must be willing and able to travel throughout the East Valley and surrounding areas in Pinal County.

    • Other Employment: You may hold other jobs or commitments, provided you are fully available and able to respond during your on-call hours.

Requirements:

  • Screening: Successful completion of a thorough criminal background check, drug screening, DMV record check, and a negative TB test prior to employment. A fingerprint clearance card is highly preferred.
  • Certifications: Must possess valid First Aid and CPR certifications. Completion of a formal CNA program or Caregiving Certification is highly preferred (and required before beginning client assignments, but can be completed via company-provided training).
  • References: Provide at least two positive references from past employment that demonstrate your professionalism and commitment.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of direct caregiving experience specifically in home care required. Preference given to those with high-acuity care experience and demonstrated reliability in flexible or on-call roles.
  • Reliability: Proven ability to show up on time, communicate clearly, and represent the company with professionalism in dynamic or last-minute situations.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • On-Call Pay: Guaranteed $2/hour for standby time during scheduled on-call shifts.
  • Competitive Call-In Pay: When called in to work, you earn 1.5x your base hourly rate (base is $18–$20/hr based on experience and certification).
  • W2 Employment: Enjoy the benefits of W2 employment status, including tax benefits and eligibility for applicable protections including overtime pay.
  • Travel Time: Receive paid travel time between any consecutive client assignments.
  • Incentives & Differentials: Benefit from quarterly attendance incentives and shift differentials for select shifts.
  • Career Advancement: Eligible for consideration to grow into additional roles as the company grows.
