What is the difference between Weekend New Grad Software Engineer vs Part-Time Software Developer?

AspectWeekend New Grad Software EngineerPart-Time Software Developer

The Weekend New Grad Software Engineer typically works in structured environments, focusing on learning and contributing to company projects during weekends. In contrast, a Part-Time Software Developer often works independently, handling specific tasks or projects on a flexible schedule. Both roles involve coding and software development, but the former is more aligned with entry-level employment, while the latter offers freelance or supplementary income opportunities.

Is it true that AI will replace software engineers?

AI is a tool that can automate certain coding tasks, but it is unlikely to fully replace software engineers, especially new grads, who bring problem-solving, creativity, and adaptability to development. Software engineering involves understanding complex requirements, designing solutions, and collaborating with teams, which currently require human judgment and expertise. AI can assist engineers by increasing productivity and handling repetitive tasks, but human skills remain essential for innovation and complex decision-making.

Can you make $500,000 as a software engineer?

While most entry-level or weekend new grad software engineers earn significantly less than $500,000 annually, senior software engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and working in high-paying industries or companies can reach or exceed this level through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving such compensation typically requires years of experience, advanced technical skills, and often working in roles with high responsibility or in competitive markets.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced software engineers, especially those in senior or specialized roles at large tech companies, can earn $500,000 or more annually through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires advanced skills, extensive experience, and often working in high-cost-of-living regions or at companies with lucrative compensation packages.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those in high-demand fields like machine learning, cloud computing, or working at large tech companies, can earn $300,000 or more annually. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and often stock options or bonuses as part of compensation packages.

Job description

IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking New Grad Software Engineers who have a passion for technology and education to help us build new, innovative products and add new features to our extremely successful educational products. We find it immensely satisfying to develop products that impact the lives of millions, and we are eager to have you join our team.
This position requires you to be in our Raleigh, NC, area office. H1B sponsorship is available for this position.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

As a Software Engineer, you will build the back-end wiring, application logic, and UI that engage our users. You will find and use the best technologies to add features and create new products. You'll be involved in all aspects of the development process - including design, coding, testing, debugging, and tuning. You will own your projects from start to end as they travel through our fast-paced development cycle. In addition to working with your fellow engineers, you'll collaborate with other teams to design amazing products that meet the needs of our users, who are students and teachers all over the world.

TECHNOLOGY

Our tech stack spans many brands and products, so what you work with will depend on your team - but across the portfolio you'll find Java, Python, and TypeScript on the server side, running on AWS. For mobile, we build apps using React Native. Our front-end code is written in JavaScript and TypeScript (including React and Next.js). We use PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Valkey for data storage.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • Excellent programming skills
  • Strong analytical-reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and with a wide variety of teams
  • Knowledge of Unix, Python, Java, SQL, or JavaScript is a plus
  • Passion for improving education through technology
