The Position The City of Carlsbad, Library & Cultural Arts Department is recruiting Library Technicians to support library services for positions at both the Georgina Cole Library and the Carlsbad Library on Dove Lane. The scheduled work hours for Library Technicians will vary and may be distributed over all hours the Carlsbad Libraries are open, including evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of a Librarian or Circulation Supervisor, this position performs a variety of customer service, administrative, and clerical duties associated with day-to-day activities at an assigned library location.

Day-to-day activities may include working at a public service desk, delivering library programs or outreach, checking materials out to library patrons, checking materials in, reshelving materials, and handling patron library accounts. Provide exceptional customer service while representing the City of Carlsbad and Carlsbad City Library Assist patrons in person, via phone, or via computer-based systems at a service desk or self-checkout Process library card applications, issue library cards and provide patrons with replacement library cards Deliver library programs and information in a variety of settings Explain library rules, policies and procedures to the public as required Collect and process fees for lost or damaged library materials Perform clerical duties Sort and shelve library materials Troubleshoot basic technical issues with hardware such as a book sorter or public copier May direct the workflow of others including reviewing work for accuracy, compliance with procedures, and assigning work as needed Perform library opening and closing duties Deliver library materials between branches via city-owned vehicles Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Passionate about libraries and serving the public Possess excellent customer service and written/verbal communication skills Ability to work cooperatively with the public and colleagues Compassionate when working with clientele with diverse backgrounds Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks with attention to detail Proficient working with mobile devices and computers, including the internet, online databases, and Microsoft Office software Possess a clean driving record and valid California driver's license Experience & Education Any combination equivalent to experience and education that couldlikely providethe required knowledge and abilities would qualify. Previous experience working in a public library setting is highly desirable Physical Requirements Able to operate equipment including, but not limited to, some that may require rapid adjustments such as computer keyboards and terminals, printers, and photocopiers Able to coordinate eyes, hands, fee and limbs in performing skilled movements such as rapid keyboard use Able to perform frequent downward or upward flexion or turning of the neck, fine finger dexterity and grasp to manipulate keyboard, telephone, writing instruments, papers, books, manuals and reports Able to stand, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, reach at and above shoulders and twist at the waist Able to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds Able to safely push heavy book carts up to 60 pounds Position will require brief periods of exposure to the outdoors in all seasons and weather.
