Job description

** This Part-Time Library Associate position will be located at the Snellville Branch: 361 Main Street, 2245 Wisteria Dr, Snellville, GA 30078. **


Purpose:

This position is responsible for performing customer service as well as a wide variety of specialized planning, programming, and more complex supportive duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Library customers with their information, technology and reader's advisory needs and with locating Library materials through the use of Library information systems, internet and other search methods.

  • Provides support for all areas of daily branch operations to include resolving customer inquiries and issues, balancing fees and branch cash funds and collection management and flow.

  • Works with community groups which can include schools, non-profit organizations and businesses in order to promote library activities and services. Coordinates and conducts library tours and community presentations.

  • Assists Library administration by recommending materials for the collection and purging outdated material.

  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and materials for Library programs as appropriate.

  • Actively participates in the duties necessary to branch operations, including but not limited to: collection maintenance and shelving library materials; serving work shifts in the public service area; leading regular branch programming and outreach events; and, maintaining appropriate technological and professional skills through the completion of requisite training.

  • As assigned, offers targeted programming and services to specific demographic groups that the library wishes to address.

  • As assigned, provides support for special services offered at the branch and maintains all necessary certifications and/or training related to these services.

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of system priorities and initiatives as well as professional news and trends.

  • Assists library customers with passport services, including but not limited to processing applications, taking passport photos, managing payments, and providing access to passport forms and documentation as appropriate. (performed at Branches designated as Passport Service locations)

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic library operational principles and practices.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred; some college credit accepted

  • And one year of related customer service experience;

  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


Licensing Requirements

  • Valid GA Driver’s License.


Physical and Mental Requirement:

  • Ability to speak, read and write English

  • Ability to move through approximately 25,000 square foot building

  • Light physical effort required to frequently and repetitively lift or move lightweight parts and materials

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. ∙ Ability to frequently stand, walk, reach within hands’ and arms’ length, stoop, kneel, and crouch

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in fast paced environment

  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment

  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously and accept job assignments from employees other than immediate supervisor


Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
