Manager's note:

  • We're looking for individuals who are familiar with cataloguing, archiving, and are interested in working in a corporate library environment. A background in STEM would be a strong asset.

The Technical Library Project Specialist is a temporary contract position working under the supervision of the Information Resources Manager at office headquarters in San Francisco, California. This role is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the physical library collection and library catalogue while supporting knowledge preservation initiatives and aiding with special collections and archives projects as needed. 

Key Responsibilities: 

 Technical Library Maintenance: 

In-person assistance with maintaining the physical collection of the Technical Library at office headquarters in San Francisco. 

Organize, shelve, and ensure proper care of technical books, journals, standards documents, and reference materials. 

Monitor library space and assist with layout and organization improvements for collections. 

Support library security, access control, and facility maintenance coordination. 

Assist with review and assessments of physical library materials. 

Follow library policies and procedures specific to Technical Library maintenance. 

Catalog and Information Organization: 

Catalog technical library resources, including digital and print materials related to audio/video technologies. 

Maintain accurate and up-to-date catalog records in library management systems for technical documentation. 

Ensure consistent cataloging standards and metadata quality for technical resources. 

Create and update finding aids and resource guides for technical collections. 

Support classification and organization systems for technical standards and documentation. 

Follow all Technical Library cataloging policies and procedures. 

Archive and Special Collections Projects 

Support digitization projects for historical technical materials and special collections. 

Assist with projects related to preserving and showcasing historical materials relevant to the company. 

Compliance and Documentation: 

Ensure compliance with copyright law and licensing agreements. 

Maintain detailed project documentation and progress reports, including project milestones and maintenance activities. 

Support best practices for technical information organization and preservation. 

Follow all Technical Library policies and procedures. 

Reporting Structure: 

This temporary contract position reports directly to the Information Resources Manager and will work collaboratively to support Technical Library operational needs and strategic initiatives. 

Education: 

This position requires a degree in Library Science or Information Science that has been recently completed or is currently in progress. Preference will be given to applicants with cataloging experience, an interest in digitization workflows and digital collections, and experience handling special collections materials. 

Experience: 

1-3 years of experience in library operations, archives, or related field, preferably in a corporate or institutional environment with a focus on STEM. 

Required Skills: 

Must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area for the duration of the contract.  

Knowledge of library systems, cataloging standards, and archival practices for technical materials. 

Experience with library collection maintenance, preservation, and digitization projects. 

Self-starter with ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously. 

Strong organizational and project coordination skills. 

Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. 

Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 

Additional Skills: 

Proficiency in library software and information tools (e.g., EOS ILS, OCLC Worldshare, Dublin Core metadata standards). 

Experience with digitization equipment and digital asset systems. 

Comfortable with business tools such as SharePoint, project coordination software, and Windows. 

Knowledge of preservation techniques and archival storage methods. 

Familiarity with copyright law and intellectual property considerations for technical collections. 

Understanding of technical standards organizations and documentation (IEEE, ISO/IEC, etc.)
