Job Summary

The Evening and Weekends Supervisor position at Cheng Library requires a high degree of independence and initiative as well as temperament suited to providing impeccable service to the library's' student, faculty, and community clients. Reporting to the Access Services Librarian, the Evening/Weekend supervisor oversees library operations in the evening and on weekends. The position is also responsible for the overall safety and security of the library building.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the staff of the Lending Services and Periodicals department during scheduled evening and weekend hours and arranges and oversees departmental coverage in the event of illness and other emergencies.
  • Oversees aspects of the integrated library system, staffs the Lending Desk, and maintains borrower files.
  • Aids Library users, including checking materials in and out, collecting fines, responding to inquiries for information in person, by phone, and email, and referring inquiries as needed.
  • Supervises stack maintenance operations and trains personnel to sort, shelve, shelf read, shift, and other related operations.
  • Addresses and resolves user concerns related to library policies, procedures, and services.
  • Monitors and tracks all facility issues in coordination with other Lending Services personnel and maintains an accurate list of issues affecting the building and their specific locations and provides a summary of building conditions on a regular basis.
  • Works closely with daytime student supervisor to train, supervise and monitor department's student assistants.
  • Serves as liaison to the Bursar's office and is responsible for department accounting and daily receipts.
  • Oversees various projects such as overdue notices, collection agency, database maintenance.
  • Prepares and maintains statistical reports for the department.
  • Participates in library instruction as needed, teaching information literacy sessions.
  • Other duties as needed and appropriate for the position.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum two years of experience in a library or another service-related field

Competencies/Skills Required

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation.
  • Ability to independently perform detailed, accurate work.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Familiarity with library systems and software, including spreadsheet software.
  • Availability for the advertised time schedule.
  • Flexibility to work extra hours on an as-needed basis.

Other Information

Sunday through Thursday 4pm to 12am (midnight) during the fall and spring semesters. Hours vary during the summer and between semesters.
