Position Overview
The Project Development Librarian is a member of the UNT Libraries' External Partnerships Unit in the Digital Libraries Division and provides an important outreach role to the many collaborating institutions and to users of the content of the Portal to Texas History. The Portal is a collaborative digital library with over 550 content partners from libraries, museums, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions. Every month, the 9.7 million pages of materials in the Portal are used nearly a million times by a global audience. The Portal 's content is also discoverable through the Digital Public Library of Americas. This position is in a unique position to help make a difference in the cultural heritage landscape of Texas. The librarian in this position works closely with other units in the Digital Libraries Division to explore and build partnerships among institutions for collaborative efforts, to provide reference support for Digital Collections, and to promote digital projects. The librarian works with internal and external stakeholders to plan and coordinate projects as part of the mission of the UNT Libraries. The librarian exercises broad independent judgment and authority under the direction of the Head of the External Partnerships Unit. The librarian serves on library committees and work groups as assigned.
The Project Development Librarian works within the External Partnerships Unit of the Digital Libraries Division to schedule and coordinate digitization projects with external partners to support the Libraries' Strategic Plan and to provide high quality training and guidance for the UNT Libraries' external collaborators.
Perform daily undertakings for The Portal to Texas History and other Digital Library initiatives
Coordinate planning, scheduling, and pick-up and delivery of materials as needed for projects involving digital information and/or historical information.
Provide instructional training as requested by external project collaborators on preparing collections for digitization and metadata creation.
Build collaborative relationships with other institutions and private collectors.
Provide public access to digital materials and assist with planning for the Libraries' digital initiatives.
Build awareness of The Portal to Texas History through the promotional newsletter, social media and through presentations.
Provide virtual reference assistance for The Portal to Texas History to partners and the public.
Increase awareness of our services and collections for the UNT community with a variety of outreach activities.
Promote the Portal at conferences that target the Portal's constituency. Collaborate with other units within the Digital Libraries Division to schedule, manage, and complete digitization projects involving external partners for the Portal to Texas History.
Oversee Portal Research Fellowship Program.
Track and report presentations and participants related to Portal to Texas History outreach activities.
Establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with colleagues to promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
* Education: ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information sciences.
* Ability to build effective work relationships.
* Evidence of excellent communication skills.
