The City of Coppell is seeking a Library Assistant who provides friendly, professional circulation support and clerical assistance that keeps our library running smoothly. These positions play a vital role in connecting residents to resources, information, and one another—enhancing learning, curiosity, and community belonging. Library Assistants support daily operations, assist patrons with checkouts, account information, and interlibrary loan processes, and contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. They work collaboratively with a dedicated team to ensure efficient service, accurate materials processing, and positive public interactions. Ideal candidates are adaptable, dependable, and committed to the City's Culture of Credibility and dedication to exceptional community experiences.

Schedule Commitment

Regular attendance is an essential job function. The Library Assistant works a variable, 20-hour schedule, including Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings.

Pay Plan

This opportunity is non-exempt and on Pay Grade #5. The full Pay Grade Range is shown for growth and development opportunities within the grade. Salary determination is supported by budget availability and qualifications of the candidate to maintain internal equity.

Hiring Range: $19.17

  • Min $19.17
  • Mid $23.48
  • Max $27.79

Candidate Engagement Plan

  • September 4 - September 20: Accepting Applications
  • September 21 - September 25: Application Material Review and Technical Phone Screenings
  • September 28 - October 2: Selected candidates are invited to complete a DISC Assessment and participate in a Panel Interview

Eligibility

Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1+ year of library experience is preferred.
  • Municipal library experience, bilingual ability, and/or higher education is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Works effectively as part of a team.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with city staff, citizens, and other individuals using the English language.
  • Performs multiple tasks simultaneously and adapts to frequent changes in priorities under time pressures.
  • Utilizes a personal computer and the library's Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Operates a motor vehicle safely for travel within the city and to library-related events

After nearly 20 years as Parks and Recreation, our department has experienced explosive growth of our parks and trails system, and expanded its scope to include a recreation and aquatics center, a tennis center, a senior and community center, a biodiversity education center, playgrounds, new ball fields, community gardens, a farmers market, a cemetery, massive growth in special event offerings, the addition of a marketing and community engagement team, a dog park, an arts center, a library, pickleball courts and thousands of camps, classes, programs, sports leagues and services. We offer such a wide variety of services to the community - greatly expanding the purview of traditional parks and recreation. In January 2023 we became Coppell Community Experiences. The name change and rebranding reflects our desire to reimagine the way we serve the Coppell community and continue to meet both current needs and demands of the future. Several industries are now joined together working toward the same goal: to provide exceptional experiences to the Coppell community.
