Department Information
The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. Students are our priority, and their health, safety, and overall well-being are our core mission.
The Housing Operations and Assignments office is a dynamic group of staff who facilitate occupancy management, contract implementation and front-line service for on-campus housing. With a highly productive and cyclical office structure, staff balance customer service and student development through interactions with students and families.
Approximately 13,000 students live in IUB on-campus housing, predominately first year students in 15 traditional residence halls. In addition to our traditional floors, we have 21 Living Learning Centers and Thematic Communities.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Responsible for supporting the Housing Operations and Assignments desk with a variety of office skills that embody customer service and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Gives support to the professional staff of the department.
  • Manages email and voicemail; provides general phone support regarding student requests, housing assignments, the move-in process, and medical accommodations
  • Provides directional guidance to students, staff, and vendors who enter our buildings.
  • Serves as a reliable source of information for housing assignments and processed and additionally supports Residence Life initiatives.
  • Assists with tabling information during the summer New Student Orientation programs.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
  • 1 year of office experience
  • Customer Relations Management tool experience
SKILLS
Required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, with a professional customer service orientation and demonstrated ability to work well with a student, faculty and staff population
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently
  • Team-oriented, with the ability to recognize when tasks need to be completed, taking initiative to assist where and when needed
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with access to critical university data
  • Operating knowledge of standard office equipment
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
