Laundry Attendant
Summary of Position
The Laundry Assistant plays an integral role in the success of our team, our community, and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. The primary purpose of this position is to perform the daily activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Executive Director and/or the Director of Housekeeping, to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner, and that an adequate supply of linen is on hand at all times to meet the needs of the residents.
Essential Job Functions
Laundry Services
  • Perform daily laundry functions and tasks assigned in accordance with established laundry procedures
  • Sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment.
  • Sort, count, and wash soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., in accordance with established procedures.
  • Fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry and linen and store in appropriate locations.
  • Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
  • Coordinate daily laundry services with other services when performing routine assignments in resident living areas.
  • Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.
  • Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions when necessary.
  • Dispose of refuse and personal protective equipment in accordance with our sanitation procedures.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of laundry/linen supplies to perform daily tasks is maintained in specified areas.
  • Clean floors, including sweeping, dusting, and damp/wet mopping. Ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.
  • Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Critical Skills
  • Be able to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, prospects, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility.
  • Communicate effectively in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, team members, prospects, residents, and families.
  • Knowledge/proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Experience
  • Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any direct reports or supervisory requirements.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Tasks assigned to this position may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.
Physical Requirements - The Physical activities of this position involve:
  • Must be able to lift xx pounds at times
  • Alternating between standing and sitting
