Job description

Overview
Job Summary:
Transports items to and from Decatur Morgan Hospital facilities in a timely and safe manner. Utilizes proper handling techniques when transporting specimens, documents accurately, maintains equipment, and collects cash and tokens from parking decks timely.
Responsibilities
  • Follows directions and performs work according to hospital Standards of Behavior and Code of Conduct; completes duties during the assigned shift with few exceptions
  • Perform duties with little or no supervision.
  • Transports items to and from Decatur Morgan facilities; Obtains proper signatures for items delivered.Maintains equipment in proper working order.
  • Performs all courier runs in a timely manner, following criteria established by Transport and avoiding inconvenience to patients/customers.
  • Utilizes proper handling techniques for picking up specimens, including the appropriate use of coolers, specimen bags, cool packs and dry ice.
  • Documents each specimen pick-up and delivery, maintaining an accurate record count.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicles, both inside and out and communicate all maintenance issues to the Fleet Manager. Does not smoke or allow others to smoke in the hospital vehicles
  • Uses communication equipment effectively and professionally.
  • Ability to operate postage and copy equipment as well as provide minor maintenance.
  • Sort hospital mail by department in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for collecting tokens and cash from parking decks in a timely manner.
  • Reports all incidents involving the Decatur Morgan Hospital vehicle to immediate supervisor.
  • Obtains any police reports of accidents involving Decatur Morgan Hospital vehicle.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures, reporting safety hazards and initiating appropriate action.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be computer literate.
Experience: Organizational skills required to handle multiple tasks. Interpersonal skills required to work with intradepartmental relations
  • Communicates well speaking clearly with a pleasant tone of voice
  • Provides accurate and timely information using discretion and protects confidentiality of information.
  • Records and interprets information accurately
  • Maintains a valid Alabama driver's license and excellent driving record
