What is weekend IT support?

Weekend IT Support professionals provide technical assistance and troubleshooting services during weekends when regular IT staff may not be available. Their responsibilities typically include resolving hardware and software issues, responding to user queries, monitoring systems for problems, and ensuring that critical services remain operational outside of standard business hours. These roles are vital for organizations that operate around the clock or need to maintain uptime and security during weekends.

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges faced by weekend IT support staff?

Weekend IT Support professionals are primarily responsible for monitoring systems, responding to urgent technical issues, and providing assistance to users during off-peak hours. They often work independently or with a small team, which means they must be comfortable troubleshooting a wide range of hardware and software problems without immediate access to specialized colleagues. A common challenge is managing critical incidents with limited resources, requiring strong problem-solving skills and clear communication to escalate issues when necessary. This role is ideal for those who enjoy autonomy and are proactive in maintaining system reliability outside regular business hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend IT support professional?

To thrive as a Weekend IT Support professional, you need a solid understanding of computer systems, troubleshooting, and networking concepts, usually backed by a degree in IT or related certifications like CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP). Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and common operating systems is essential for diagnosing and resolving technical issues efficiently. Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills help you support end-users and remain effective during high-pressure or off-hours situations. These competencies ensure minimal downtime, reliable support coverage, and positive user experiences during critical weekend operations.

Job description

Description:

Mountain Land Physical Therapy runs roughly 80 outpatient clinics, and every one of them depends on technology working. We are hiring an on-site IT Support Specialist to be the person our clinical and administrative teams reach when something is not working, and to make sure it gets fixed.

This is a real first-line support role. You will take requests by phone, email, and ticket, work through them, and close them out. You will replace hardware, set up laptops and phones for new hires, help clinics get printers and payment terminals working, and travel out to locations when something needs hands on it. Some days that means solving the same problem five times. Other days it means driving to a clinic and being the reason they can see patients that afternoon.

We are more interested in how you think and whether people can count on you than in how long your resume is. If you have certifications and help desk experience, great. If you are early in your career, technically curious, and the kind of person who follows through without being reminded, we would like to talk to you.

This is the entry point into our IT team, not a dead end. The people who do well here take ownership of problems, get curious about how the systems actually work, and grow into systems administration, automation, and security work. We will support that, and there is real room for it as the company grows.

What you'll do:

  • Take in support requests, prioritize them, work them, and document what you did.
  • Fix issues at the desktop and device level, including software installs, hardware swaps, and configuration.
  • Set up equipment and accounts for new hires, and make sure access is removed when people leave.
  • Support clinic technology including workstations, printers, phones, tablets, and payment terminals.
  • Travel to clinics for hardware replacements, installs, and issues that cannot be fixed remotely.
  • Escalate the things that need deeper technical involvement, and learn from how they get solved.
  • Keep asset records accurate and write up the fixes that other people will need later.

What we're looking for:

  • An aptitude for troubleshooting Windows and Microsoft 365, and a willingness to learn quickly.
  • Comfort with basic computer hardware, including PCs, printers, and peripherals.
  • Genuinely good communication. You will be talking to therapists and front office staff, not engineers.
  • Dependability. Clinics need to know their request is being handled.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to clinic locations.
  • Comfort working around protected health information, or willingness to be trained on it properly.

Pay: $18.50 - $20.50/hour

Hours and Benefits: This is a full-time, fully benefited position that is eligible to receive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as 401(k), PTO, and wellness incentives. Benefits add roughly 20–30% additional income to the pay range.

Location (On-Site): 1952 East Fort Union Blvd, Salt Lake City, UT 84121

Requirements:
  •  Must be able to work fully on-site at our Cottonwood Heights, Utah location.
  • Desire to learn and develop technical skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Additional Education or Certifications in Technology (preferred, but not required)
  • A year or more in help desk, technical support, or a similar role.
  • A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications, or technical coursework.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, or an IT ticketing platform.
  • Interest in scripting and automation, such as PowerShell or Power Automate.
