Weekend Anchor

27 News is seeking a strong journalist to lead our newsroom on the weekend. This position anchors our Saturday evening newscasts, produces our Sunday shows, fills in as an anchor and producer during the week and reports three days a week.

We are looking for someone with sharp news judgment, strong writing skills and a collaborative mindset. This is not a desk-only job. You should be just as comfortable gathering news in the field as you are presenting it on the desk. It's an excellent opportunity for a reporter ready to take the next step into anchoring.

27 News is an award-winning newsroom in an active, competitive market. Topeka is a state capital with strong politics, major universities on both sides of us (KU and Kansas State), and a vibrant community with robust sports, arts and culture. We are the NBC, FOX, ABC and CW affiliates in the Topeka region, offering a wide variety of storytelling opportunities.

The News Anchor/Reporter will:
Anchor Saturday newscasts and produce Sunday shows
Report three days a week
Produce content for TV, digital, mobile and social platforms
Work with management to enterprise and develop daily stories
Tell compelling stories through strong writing, live presence, and creative use of video, graphics and social media
Gather and verify information through interviews, observation and research
Build and maintain a network of sources to keep us competitive
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements and skills:
Newsroom experience
Strong vocal delivery, on-camera presence and clear enunciation
Strong reporting and writing skills
Understanding of social media's role in modern journalism
Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational abilities
Commitment to teamwork and a positive, collaborative attitude
Ability to operate newsroom computer systems
